Mesut has once again made his position clear, he's going nowhere and he will be seeing out his contract with Arsenal.
He also sounds pretty optimistic about his chances of playing for us again next season too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sounded pretty defiant to me Gunner! I hope it doesn't impact on Mikel. And what about Arsene being approached by Barcelona and he turned them down!

I've not heard anything about Arsene and Barcelona Sally, when was this supposed to have happend?

Is it the board trying to force him out or is it a way to save money on appearance bonuses etc. I personally would like to see mesut play again, even after being frozen out for so much of the season he's still top of the table for chances created for us and he was playing great football before the league was postponed.

Just out of curiosity ed, do both parties have to mutually agree to the termination of a contract or is this something the club can choose to do without a player's consent?

{Ed002's Note - It is the return they get for the money they are paying him. If Arsenal terminate his contract without his agreement they will end up in court.}

Just something I have seen reported in a few newspapers Gunner.

Cheers Sally.

Sorry ed, alternatively I should have said buy him out of his contract rather than terminate it. Is this still something that has to be mutually agreed?

{Ed002's Note - Yes.}

I not sure if they can put him on gardening leave as some clubs have done with former managers they wanted to part company with but couldn't or didn't want to reach a suitable compensation settlement with. Basically means paying them full wage for the remainder of the contract but not requiring them to attend work or provide any service.

{Ed002's Note - No, that would land the club in court as well.}

Oh OK, scratch that idea too :-)

{Ed002's Note - I would.}

On a serious note - players do need protection. That’s why a number of reforms have come in. They aren’t trading cards but family members, dads, brothers, partners. like us, they require protecting from corporations, it should all be with consent. Consent is normally a good starting point.

Arsenal board agreed the deal - Simple.

I would happily put Özil into the right set up. We’ve never really seen that. Özil doesn’t defend! That’s like saying I’m not eating at a top restaurant unless the head chef - cooks, takes the order, serves and tidies up the restaurant. That chef will F off at some stage or never look great as not set up to succeed. The issue was not that Özil wouldn’t defend but the defence and CM couldn’t defend.

Get the two proper CDs rather than Luiz and Papa or Mustafi. Get the proper CDMs rather than Elneny, Matteo or Torriera or Granit, Play Ozil with a front two with movement plus a midfielder that breaks late into the box like Rambo - then moan if he’s crap. Get the set up right and take a risk.
