When attacking luiz makes a back 3 width comes from full backs. Ozil drifting Torriera box to boxing.

Like the idea of Luis playing DM/ Sweeper role combined, he's made for that role.
Leno Belerin Tierney Guendouzi Lacasette and Auba are all must play every premier league game players while Mustafi and Xhaka are must not play for us again in the premier league, all others need to fight it out for the remaining places.

interesting reading about the best role for David Luiz. Its all so similar to the discussion on our Chelsea page over the years. He is not good in a back 4, but excelled under Conte in a back 3 with 2 wing backs. We always thought he would be brilliant as a DM, and played there a few times, but certain managers thought he was not disciplined enough for the role. Because of his long passing ability playing slightly deeper in a back 3, ie the old sweeper role is perfect for him. Anyway good luck for the season lads.

I agree with all of these teams, at least compared to the rubbish Emery thinks is working.
I'm always a 4-3-3 (or 4-2-1-3) advocate so for me:
Leno
Bellerin Sokratis Holding Tierney
Torreira Guendouzi
Ozil
Pepe Lacazette Aubameyang
That's how I'd pick our strongest XI. Maybe Luiz in for Sokratis or Holding depending on how defensive we want to be, but he absolutely needs Torreira or Chambers in that DM role ahead of him to function. Just look at how it went at Chelsea. Luiz in DM = great. Luiz in back 3 = great. Luiz in back 2 with Kante protecting = good. Luiz in back 2, no Kante = apocalyptically bad.

I think most of talked about Luis struggling in a back 4 but brilliant in a 3 before he kicked a ball for us so why did Emery buy him for a flat back 4 in the first place?
Play the players you have like Ozil and Luis to thier strengths rather than stick to the way you personally like play but don't have the players to suit your way?
Daft to say the least.

For me we have 2 midfields for different games
Guendouzi and torreira with luiz behind
Or guendouzi and torreira with ozil in front
Back4 = bellerin sokratis holding tierny
Front3 = auba laca pepe
I know people have been unhappy with pepe so far but he is pur best dribbler and if he starts to score goals we have a fantastic player.

I’d have Luiz and Holding as 2 of my 3, he’d be good there IMO.
