David Ornstein "Arsenal are set to sign Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba in a 30m euro (£27m) deal that will see him loaned back to the Ligue 1 club next season.

The Gunners will pay for the 18-year-old in instalments, which will not have a major impact on their restricted budget of around £45m for this summer".

As expected and a good signing for us.

Let's hope so mate, it doesn't really do a lot for the excitement levels of the season ahead but does show someone somewhere at Arsenal is ambitious for the future.
Be interesting to know who really pushed for this deal as it would give a clue to that individuals thinking, if was Emery himself he obviously isn't expecting his to be let go next summer so maybe there are other more players who would have a more immediate impact on the way too.

It doesn't mate no but Sanllehi did say that we need to try and outsmart the market going forward. We obviously wanted the player and had to do what we could to ensure we got the best price, and didn't miss out to anyone else. Ornstein also said that the transfer won't be formally announced for several days while the transfer is being finalised. Interesting that he says we are still in the market for an immediate CB, CM and winger, whilst also perusing a deal for Tierney. Although no mention of Zaha specifically. Will see how the next few weeks play out.

I agree Glen we need to look to the future and for us to pay 30 million for a very young player must have something about him.
I still think this season is make or break for Emery and without clear and obvious improvement on last seasons performances he won't get a 3rd season whether he personally wants a 3rd season or not.
If he choses to bring players in great and if he doesn't that's great too, his decision and he has to stand or fall on what his Arsenal deliver on the pitch next season.

Loaned back next season! So no progression next season.

Looks like the MD of Rumbelows must be running our club or something.

He's 4 million cheaper than both Xhaka and Mustafi and has already matched both in terms of positive effect at Arsenal SY mate, look on the bright side mate :-)

He will have just as many good games next season for us also 😂😂

Two signings and none impacting 19/ 20 season - that’s pretty poor as we are in the second week of July

🤔😱🤬.

I'm quite cool with it mate because either way it's Emery choice and if he gets next season right happy days and if he doesn't bye bye Dick hello new manager!
I want Emery to succeed but if next season we look as awful as last season then the club will face a choice let Emery go or watch more fans than ever give up on the club.
1 more season like last season would be toght to watch 2 more would be impossible for many.
