Rumours have it that Arsenal has beaten Bayern to the signing of Caglar Soyuncu from Freiburg. I have just watched a video of him on youtube and he looks good plus he is young and versatile. He has got the energy and aggression I expect from a defender.

More fake news apparently.

PSG have shown serious interest in Sanchez. My guts tell me this is the time to sell him especially if and again if he doesn't want to stay with us. The reason i say so is that without him settling for what and who we have become now, his attitude is bound to cause distraction to the rest of his team mates and that could be disasterous for us.

It's the least thing we need this season. We need players who love this club for what we are, and as we bring out the best in such players, they should learn to return the favour by sticking with us in the hard times. Nevertheless, if Sanchez is happy and has accepted to stay with us, then we keep him.

A swop for Verratti?

Dimitri Payet could be a potential cazorla replacement. I love his style of play plus he's somewhat unpredictable. He's a typical arsenal player, good on the ball.

Willycruzzz

{Ed002's Note - There is no interest in him from Arsenal at this time and hasn't been since before he joined l'OM.}

I hope Wenger wouldn't come out saying there were no strikers available who would improve our squad because there's Lacazette who imo is better than walcott now.
If Wenger had told us that moving to our new stadium would stop us from winning major trophies, i wouldn't have gone down well with that. I would have loved us to remain at Highbury and then maintain our invincible squad than to experience this nightmare!
No ambition, no intent, no hunger and desire, no mental strength.
The best always settles for the best. We are supposed to settle for nothing than a win. Look at Barca, always hungry for trophies, the likes of Madrid, Bayern, Juve and other elite teams among europe are never satisfied. Yet here we are showing hunger for top 4 spot rather than the ultimate prize (the epl title) .

i think stan kroenke is not as silent as people think. just looking at all the sports teams he owns and well, just look at them, even those which seem to do well at one point no longer do.

at this rate it won't be long before spurs are in front only because the owner could not care more than the bottom line.

too many people who are taking this club no where. needs a complete overhaul of owner and directors and manager.

2.) 16 Aug 2016 10:38:02
Could not agree more matey, I'm not saying I think Wenger is not at fault because he seems to be so stubborn when it comes to his transfer policy but I've no doubts things would be no better under somebody else.

The board, Stan and Ivan are just has guilty and they all need to go. We've become a laughing stock in football and they are exploiting the fans unconditional love for the club. It is a joke!

3.) 16 Aug 2016 15:16:15
I think Wenger (and sometimes fans too) has a tendency to misunderstand what would constitute an improvement to our squad. If Giroud is your first choice striker (let's say he's a 7.5/ 10 as a lone striker) , and Walcott, Alexis, and Welbeck (for the sake of argument, 6.5/ 10, 6.5/ 10, 7/ 10, and 5.5/ 10 respectively as lone strikers) also get game-time up top on their own, then you don't need someone >7.5/ 10 to improve your squad, simply someone >6.5/ 10.

The secondary consideration is value. If getting a 6.6/ 10 will cost a huge amount, I can understand the argument that says not to buy them. It doesn't, however, mean that there isn't anyone out there who would improve our squad, simply that it might not be good/ the best use of that money.

4.) 16 Aug 2016 15:51:39
I don't agree with the fees that players cost now adays.

however if the fans who watch the games and buy merchandise and subscribe to the sports packages are not given what they want which is investment in the team, they have every right to be angry and upset.

how can a club which is the probably the second richest in england and spent only 10 mill last year not go out and address the issues of the team?

they need a CB yes it will cost 40 mill pay it and get it done because its already shown how badly it failed in game 1.

so to go into the next 2 games and to come away with 0-2 points is going to be a disaster, and the fans have every right to be upset.

i don't care this season if the club is 10th or 15th, there are issues which need to be addressed long term.

Puma had to release a statement recently to support the fans i mean something is seriously wrong.

5.) 16 Aug 2016 18:50:10
Long time reader here, I've only posted a few times, but I don't really understand all of the blaming of Kroenke. Certainly you can make the argument that none of his other teams are particularly successful, but I've always been of the opinion that those most responsible for the performance of a business/ club is the management. Kroenke hasn't paid himself any dividends, and he earned the name silent stan for both his reluctance to appear in the media in addition to his hands off approach to management, which can certainly be a virtue as investment foresight and the ability to manage a business are two completely different skills.

If you look at arsenal from an ownership perspective, you'd be pretty content as well. Even though the fans are clearly discontent, they're not really translating that discontent in a way that an owner will feel the need to intervene in some way. The revenue is still increasing each year and the waiting list for season tickets is still 10,000 or so.

The problem is management, and while I'm not going to pretend to understand how all of the upper level decision making occurs at Arsenal, I don't think that I'm making an unreasonable assumption. Maybe its fair as fans that we expect Kroenke to do something about this issue; but I can't see anything happening unless people stop renewing season tickets/ purchasing gameday tickets. Its like complaining about apple and then going out and buying the new iPhone every year. Maybe you can say that football club is different than any other business but I don't really see how fans can expect the owner to think that way.

6.) 16 Aug 2016 20:24:37
Hoover kronke when he bought the club made a statement " you don't buy a club just to win championships" maybe that explains the mindset of the owner. Every one at this club, work for kronke and they all do it with the knowledge he is not motivated by trophies. Google stanley kronke and you will be enlightened.

7.) 16 Aug 2016 20:48:29
Kroenke didn't buy the club he is just the majority share holder.

8.) 16 Aug 2016 22:20:39
I thought i made it prett clear that I understand that he's a businessman first and foremost. I'm American, and have friends from St Louis and have had to listen to them whine about him moving their team to LA for months; a decision any owner in their right mind would do if they had the opportunity to do so. I've known about Kroenke for some time and the way he operates. Most club owners are businessmen, they have no requirement to care about the club on the personal level, its an investment. Investors are almost never directly responsible for the success of the company, the management is, therefore in my opinion gazidis and wenger are far more responsible than Stan is. We have the money and I honestly believe they have just chosen not to spend it.

My point was also that if the fans want to signal to the owner that a change in management be made then they need to stop supporting the club financially. I also don't buy the whole conspiracy that the club has been buying one player at the beginning of the transfer window to get people to renew their season tickets and then subsequently ending their activity in the market. Most people renew their tickets in April/ Early May before the season has even ended.

9.) 17 Aug 2016 02:51:45
completely agree with you laker! Kroenke, Gazidis and Wenger all need to get out. They are in it for the money and that is not fair on the fans or players!

So Wenger to the Japanese media saying "Jamie Vardy is, at the moment, with Leicester City and from what I know he will stay at Leicester".
Wenger has apparently confirmed he's switched away from Vardy. No Vardy for Arsenal so who's the next striker target?

Willycruzzz

1.) 19 Jun 2016 11:00:45
Jovetic by all accounts. I like the player but injuries hampered him in the prem. I think he'd suit our play much better than he suited man city's though.

2.) 19 Jun 2016 11:08:22
Arsene says many things Willy not all of which he means, he always plays his cards close to his chest so I wouldn't take to much notice one way or the other.

3.) 19 Jun 2016 12:22:30
VG well he once was our target so i think he'd be a great addition. Albeit, I'm up for anyone who'll put the ball in the back of the neck. Oh and even if Walcott does, no one would want to kick his head off the pitch.

4.) 19 Jun 2016 12:27:12
G62 yeah we all know how cryptic Wenger's messages could get. I can't wait till he signs a striker. Should we take a gamble on Walcott by giving him the striking role? Could he come alive and find his form next season?

{Ed025's Note - i think you have to give up on that old chestnut willy, the truth is that theo is an average winger and mediocre striker mate..

5.) 19 Jun 2016 12:48:14
in the back of the net** VG.

6.) 19 Jun 2016 14:53:04
I was all for Theo getting played up top, before this season the games he did play up front he was getting goals but last season he was given the spot for a few games running n he didn't grasp it at all, shame really, I think if Theo was nurtured from when he joined to be playing as a striker he may well of become class on grass but that wasn't the case n wenger saw him more as a winger.

Onwards n upwards

Who's going to be our new number 9?

7.) 19 Jun 2016 17:42:42
I agree 100% JE if we'd had played Theo down the middle 7 years ago he might well have made a top striker but it's unlikely to happen now.

8.) 19 Jun 2016 23:22:54
Does Jovetic score many goals? I'm not sure he does nor that he's our answer.

I think we benefit a lot when we play 2 playmakers. Ødegaard and ESR. We don't struggle with chance creation. I think we would have had more stability in the middle with Partey. But Xhaka and Ceballos did a fantastic job today.

Willycruzzz

1.) 14 Feb 2021 23:23:02
Loved the Ceballos/ ESR/ Odegaard interplay today, it was dazzling. I think we missed Pepe's attacking thrust but Saka more than made up for it.

Heard that we were quoted 23m to take Ceballos permanently. Not sure we should, but it depends on outgoings. I'm worried his progress has peaked.

10 Feb 2021 11:13:09
Hi gooners, my first post in a long while 😂

I have observed some things we have not been doing quite well which costs as a lot

1. When we are attacking, we don't commit enough players in the final third which delays our chance creation and by then the opponents would have organised their defence. Sometimes due to lack of players (free) in the final third we tend to bring the ball back to the centre all the way from the opponent's box and surrondings. When we have the ball on the flanks, most of the time there is no teammate to play with. We leave the player with the ball all alone at the flanks so they have no option than to bring the ball back if they don't have a chance to cross it

2. We have to learn to keep the ball in the opponent's box. That way we can win penalties if they mistime their tackles. Often when we have the ball in their box, we are keen to bring it out of the box

3. I realised we don't seem to shoot from distance. Rewatching the villa game made me realise the number of times they shot from distance (outside our box) with most of them on target. Were it not for the brilliant saves Ryan pulled we could be at least 3 goals down. He parried the shots very well and away from danger.

4. When Holding heads the ball, he hardly picks out a teammate with the header. I'm talking about free headers here. Been watching him for sometime. At least heading to a teammate wins us possession.

5. We give too much time and room to opponents when the have the ball closer to our box. This only will lead to more room for chance creation against us

If the coach sees these things and addresses the little things we can have a much more better performance and will definitely strengthen us on the pitch.

1.) 10 Feb 2021 11:56:06
As you say Willy still a lot to do, but this process is going to take time.

2.) 10 Feb 2021 20:28:51
Some fair points WC. For me there just isn’t enough movement up front which is why we struggle in the final 3rd. Since ESR has come in he sticks out a country mile purely because he actually moves off the ball. Typing this while watching the Leicester game, and I know he is not everyone’s cup of tea but watching Vardy is like a breath of fresh air, not just for his runs into the channels, but that every time he passes he also moves, normally driving towards the opposition goal expecting the ball back. We just don’t do that, it’s like Laccas role is to be the pivot, holding off the CB snapping at his heals to lay the ball off to someone else. In regards heading the ball out, we never pick up 50/ 50s in midfield, I really don’t know why more teams just don’t punt the ball down the pitch against us, even if we win the header it goes straight back to the other team who now have the ball in our half. I have to say with Partey and ESR in the team we have improved in that area recently. Finally our sideways passing. I was watching highlights of the Southampton game earlier, and yes although they lost, it was interesting watching them Move the ball around midfield. Yes like us they made plenty of sideways passes, but unlike us it was obvious that every sideways pass was to try and find someone else who could then immediately drive forwards with the ball, and not just do nothing and pass the ball sideways again. There have been signs that we are improving, and the youngsters will again help with that, but I want to see some of that energy up front, a bit like Watkins did against us at the weekend. I think if we get that movement, things will start to improve quickly.

3.) 11 Feb 2021 08:14:58
I totally agree WC. Fair points in every step. For me, the biggest change we can make (as Epping states) is to move the ball forward much quicker and much more frequently. ESR stands out so much because he has no fear, he will play quick forward passes on the turn that immediately make defenders face their goal. As a team we need to make these passes more often, even if they don't work out. We can't keep playing safe sideways passes to maintain possession, but some directness in their and don't be afraid of losing the ball. that's what our high press is designed for, regaining possession quickly. That alone should give us the confidence to try more dangerous plays.

Also, massive bug bear of mine. Arteta wants to play out from the back, which i fine, but his direction is for each player to commit an opposition player before paying the ball, thus taking them out of the game for that play. On the surface this makes sense, but only against a high press. Too many teams sit back off us, allowing the defender time to walk forward with the ball 'waiting' for opposition to approach and commit. This slows down the play so much and subsequently, our attackers do not know when to make runs or move into space. Really irritates me. Sod the opposition, create plays that work for us and create a dynamic that everyone can understand. Hope i'm making sense.

4.) 11 Feb 2021 13:29:31
I think we are getting a little more confident playing out from the back and I can see the logic as its so random just booting the ball up the pitch. But as you say Lefty we keep drawing players close to our goal and we don't seem skillful enough to play our way out successfully a lot of the time. Maybe practice makes perfect but my heartb is in my mouth each time it happens! :)

Does anyone think Partey may leave Atletico for money reasons? Or it's purely football reasons. Because he may be wanting a good deal from Atletico.

29 Dec 2018 19:59:23
I'm glad we all realise that it's not about being patient. We just have to do what is right here. Whoever we have in defence has been here long enough to be judged whether he is good enough to play for the club. Mustafi won't change being Mustafi though I must admit he did improve slightly. We must sell the weak players in the team starting with defence. Bring in good defenders at whatever price because once they are good they will repay with their performance. We need someone like Koulibaly, someone with pace and power a leader. And then keep Sokratis and Holding, the rest can go. Get Ndidi or a midfielder to pair with Torreira. There is no time to waste as we already know that we have been so bad in defence. We got lucky because other teams did not punish us when we conceded chances against them. We need to wake up, we have fallen as a club meanwhile others are getting better and better. We just need to buy very good defenders, stabilise the defence and then we need time to gel from there. Time won't save the defenders we have now and won't ever.

Willycruzzz

1.) 29 Dec 2018 20:15:28
Totally agree

How about this - 6 of Aubameyang's 10 touches were from kick-offs.

2.) 29 Dec 2018 20:24:52
Oh yeah SY. That's really bad. Lack of service to him since we have to spend all our time on defending. If we sort out our defence, it will release our attack which means more freedom to play. Our attack is fine, we only need a winger. Nelson is doing well though.

3.) 29 Dec 2018 22:14:44
First 20 minutes you probably shaded it but you're woeful at the back, koubabaily is a must for you, put all your budget into buying him. You have an excellent manager and some fantastic players, but until you get the equivalent of Van Dijk for us i.e. Koubabaily you won't be where you want to be. Good luck to you, always liked Arsenal.

27 Dec 2018 07:03:44
I have observed that we give too many back passes which gives the opposition enough confidence to close us down. There was no urgency in the team, played with no pace, no power, no desire and we didn't win loose balls. We were simply too slow and this has happen the story in our last 3 games. It will take sometime to see change but there are some things we can do ourselves to bring change like working on the my observations before bring in the right players.

Willycruzzz

1.) 27 Dec 2018 09:07:07
We also seem to be cheap with the ball - giving away sloppy easy passes which then put us under pressure in defence due to a counter attack and us being out of position.

Lots of positives though in the other matches but we seemed to have dipped a little while the 22 game run patched over some big cracks.

Once we get a solid back line - it will be very interesting.

The other piece I don’t get - how does a player like Iwobi come on as a sub to turn the game on it’s head ( a month or so ago ) , to then start and completely stink the next game up. It’s like Emery can’t start a game or motivate the players but can with a halftime team talk / subs. language must still be a challenge but I love the green shoots but still get concerned with how he starts games plus use of a Laca as well as our budget to make the changes I believe he will desire.

2.) 27 Dec 2018 10:35:01
I think SY if we do stop doing the back passes and pass forward, we will be able to provide more services to our strikers. And then we must work on moving into spaces when we are attacking because we seem to be short of ideas because we are too stagnant, less movements which results in the silly back passes. Whatever happened to our quick one touch passes and combinations.

3.) 27 Dec 2018 10:50:22
I think we in transition Willy from trying to score the perfect goal every time to becoming an effective as well as an attractive outfit.
180 months passed between invincibles to Arsene and Arsenal parting company without one serious title challenge it's going to take more than 4 months for Dick to put that right.
Last seasons Arsenal were the worst Arsenal side many fans can ever remember while even us oldies have to go back to the early 70s to remember a worse Arsenal team that what Dick inherited.
We all want instant solutions mate its human nature but in reality it's going to take us all more than a week for to lose the two stone we put on over the Christmas period :-)
The rebuilding of Arsenal is going to be a middle distance race at best and marathon at worst but it definitely won't be a sprint.

4.) 27 Dec 2018 10:51:55
Used to love the quick roll out to Cole / Pires, 12 seconds later Henry shooting.

For me it isn't about who we bring in. We have good defenders. The issue is we play too softly. We need to defend as a unit and be more aggressive. Sometimes I feel we give too much room for the opposition to do their damage. Give them less time on the ball âš½ and let's be more aggressive then we will be fine.

Perhaps the club isn't showing him enough to convince him to stay as he wouldn't want to do much of the dirty work alone on the pitch. He wants to see players with a winning mentality as he recently highlighted when talking about Iwobi.

Well that's what you get when there is a lot of movement in the team malaga. I'm still not satisfied with the movement as I still see there is a big room for improvement as I watched on. Once we master our movements into spaces, we won't struggle with keeping possession and creating chances. Loads of the time instead of the players to move into spaces, they either are static or run towards the ball while drawing opponents along too 😂.

Very impressed with the performance today not just because we won but for the fact we created chances without a struggle. With Tierney and Partey we would get even better. Cedric too has been great. Love the runs of Bellerin with the ball from midfield, one thing I would have loved our midfielders to be doing more. Makes me miss Rosicky (Super Tom 7)

I think Nkoulou (CB) would be a decent buy for us since we won't be able to afford Koulibaly whick is likely. Kos might not be with us next summer. For me this should be his last season with us.
