Hey eds

With Monaco manager Jardims latest comments (he said it's not always easy to keep hold of the players you want to) does this leave the door open for Arsenal to swoop in and sign him. It's reported that they want 80m for him. Is this true? And if so (although I know you don't like to speculate) what are the chances that Wenger and the board are prepared to spend that on him?

Personally I'd say he's worth every penny considering the performances he put in for Monaco last season. 14 goals and 17 assists is impressive.

DT2

{Ed001's Note - for who? Lemar? The door was open anyway, it was just whether Arsenal would pay enough.}

1.) 04 Aug 2017 17:54:22
And ed do u still reckon arsenal won't pay the money for him?

{Ed001's Note - not unless Sanchez goes I believe.}

2.) 04 Aug 2017 18:03:11
That does make sense. I know you support Liverpool ed but who could u see arsenal potentially signing?

{Ed001's Note - off the top of my head I don't know at the moment sorry.}

3.) 04 Aug 2017 18:26:19
This is what gets me. We should get him regardless of Sanchez . We need to be adding to talent and even if Sanchez stays and goes for free we need lemar to have a year under his belt would leave us in a far stronger possition.

4.) 04 Aug 2017 18:37:34
Exactly sanogo. It should be strengthening not replacing.

5.) 04 Aug 2017 19:07:48
Although sky sources say talks ongoing. We offered 40 they want 50. Surely we wouldn't be in talks just in case Alexis goes.

6.) 04 Aug 2017 19:36:58
We'll get him 100%.

7.) 04 Aug 2017 20:06:29
Eds are any sports wrong by claiming Monaco want 40mil rather than 80mil?

{Ed001's Note - no idea sorry.}

8.) 04 Aug 2017 20:55:35
Hopefully he's a reinforcement, although we must have the most dishonest manager regarding transfers and the Alexis situation is frustrating.
Personally, I reckon Sanchez will do a bosman, we win or challenge, and his route out (Man City) are declared guilty by ffp or for tapping up leaving him in limbo.
Well in limbo waiting in Manchester lol.

9.) 05 Aug 2017 12:55:25
Sky are saying Monaco want 50 million. If we really want him we should pay up. The fact we haven't moved for Mahrez despite the interest from Roma indicates possibly that we are confident of getting lemar.

10.) 05 Aug 2017 17:48:01
Most dishonest manager? Did he steal your lunch money?

11.) 05 Aug 2017 20:16:07
If Arsene signs Lemar and keeps Sanchez people will have to reconsider their doubts about his ambition and if he added a quality CMF player too an awful lot of us would need to admit we had seriously underestimated his and the clubs desire to compete.
As we stand everything seems very business as usual for Arsenal and our ambioton levels.

12.) 06 Aug 2017 02:33:17
I'm truly hoping for the fist part 62 mate. I hope he proves us wrong because as it stand it see we are in long awful ride. Keeping our best players is a great move, even though they might leave on the free next term but it's still a statement from the club.

13.) 06 Aug 2017 09:20:55
At the moment Moe mate it looks like we're going to be happy going through the motions yet again with a champions league spot as our ultimate ambition.
The club have shown no signs of looking to move up a gear apart from the usual talk about looking to improve which as we all know is normally followed by " there were no players who could improve us available ' line.
So far it's a pretty standard Arsenal summer that will highly likely be followed by a pretty standard Arsenal season and the only difference being those around us improving more than usual.
There is still time of course.

14.) 06 Aug 2017 11:27:11
I don't like to look at other teams but its very hard to ignore how our rivals are improving and we can't address our main problem. Yes a goal scoring player was needed but our midfield has always been a problem since santi's injury, I'm one of those believe the game won from the midfield where you need a proper DM and a very talented CM. Our defence will be a lot better having that rock in front of them.
But as you said there is still time.

25 Jul 2017 13:54:32
According to some sources we're meeting Monaco today to discuss Thomas Lemar? Any truth in this eds?

DT2

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of Arsenal being anywhere close to agreeing the asking price which they won't shift from.}

21 Jul 2017 14:57:04
Linked with rafinha today. Don't need him, so we're probably going to pad an already taken position because we all know Wenger loves a midfielder, unless they're defensive of course.

DT2

1.) 21 Jul 2017 15:10:35
Doesn't he okay cm or attacking mid. With cazorla out for so long why not?!

2.) 21 Jul 2017 18:41:10
While I understand your point, santi is a special player, of course, rafinha won't be able to fill that void I don't think. 3even if he could, surely with santi out, we need to take this opportunity to sign a PROPER defensive midfielder. We keep signing xhaka's and elneny's, playing Ramsey's or wilsheres. That is not the kind of player we need, we have 3-4 similar style players who are all about as good as each other and battle for an overcrowded position. Sell wilshere, sell Ramsey, cash in on both. Ramsey has had his chance to prove and season after season (aside from the obvious one) he's not been up to standard, move aside, let xhaka take that position and prove he's capable and play him alongside a Danilo Pereira/ Bakayoko mould player.

3.) 21 Jul 2017 18:42:41
D16 have you got the same phone as me. lol.

4.) 21 Jul 2017 21:25:11
i agree. a top quality centre mid is a prioroty imo. ramsey is injured at least twice a season, coquelin and elnenny aren't good enough.
why do we have to settle for them, they haven't been good enough to win the league last few seasons so why would they be this season?
centre mid is where games are won and lost and we are not good enough in that area im afraid. its been obvious for a few years and still not addressed.

07 Jul 2017 12:11:11
Hi ed's
With lacazette done, I still feel like we need another attacking player, especially if Sanchez forces his move, which is looking more and more likely every day. Wenger also seems to feel this way, and it's being reported by Sky that Lemar is now our Number 1 target.

Have you heard anything about recent moves for Lemar after we had a £30m bid turned down, and are we looking at any holding midfielders?

I feel like the squad is almost complete now, we just need another winger who's an improvement on Theo and a proper defensive midfielder. Ramsey and xhaka played well toward the back end of the season, but if we're going for lemar I don't see how everyone would fit in a 3 back formation, and as much as I like Ramsey's desire to go beyond the striker, since xhaka himself isn't a deep lying midfielder and doesn't really have the defensive awareness yet, I feel we need someone of the Danilo Pereira/ Fabinho mould, someone to just sit back and cover the defence.

Thanks for all the work eds keep it up.

DT2

{Ed001's Note - I don't know of any second bid, it is more likely that Mahrez is the one to come in.}

1.) 07 Jul 2017 12:27:21
Thank for the reply ed.

I don't know how I'd feel about mahrez. If he can replicate his 15/ 16 form then I'm all for it, but I've more of a feeling that he won't reach that level again. If we sign him i hope he proves me wrong. Anything on interest in defensive midfielders?

{Ed001's Note - nothing that I know of.}

2.) 07 Jul 2017 12:41:51
I thought that Ed. According to the journalists which could mean sod all that they want 50 and we won't go over 40.

3.) 07 Jul 2017 14:07:58
Personally I think if Alexis is staying that we should be aiming to strengthen the first team, not the squad. Lemar isn't going to usurp Alexis or Ozil. Ramsey and Xhaka can be improved upon however, which is why I think we should be focusing on a new CM.

4.) 07 Jul 2017 15:20:06
If alexis stays and another winger comes in then Wenger will revert back to 4-2-3-1. I really want Leon gortzeka to come to arsenal.

5.) 07 Jul 2017 15:58:08
Alexis is not staying. If he was, he would have said as much by now. If he wants to go, let him go. If the rumour of his £400,000 per week demand is true, then quite frankly, I would take the hit and let him rot in the reserves for a season; see how he likes that. Yes, he would go for free, but he would lose a whole year from his career for being such a greedy %$£@. A great player but not indispensable; nobody is bigger than the club, certainly not big enough to mug us over for a transfer to City.

I think we should plan for his departure, as well as those of Ox and Theo and go all out to sign Lemar, Carvalho, Martins, and another keeper.

6.) 07 Jul 2017 16:00:11
Daily mail reporting we have upped our bid for learning to £40mil any truth in that?

{Ed025's Note - if i knew who learning was mate i might be able to help mate..

7.) 07 Jul 2017 18:17:25
Urban let's not forget that as much as Sanchez has not said anything the fact is that he is not in control of the situation. He is under contract until next summer. Arsenal are in charge and if he is made to stay he will try because he's that type of guy. World Cup next year and he will want to play. I don't know what fee he would command but as far as I'm concerned that fee should be at least double to an EPL rival. I think he's going no where this summer unless it's abroad. it doesn't make any sense to sell him domestically this summer.

8.) 07 Jul 2017 18:45:28
Im with you sano, he's contracted untill the end of next season and then he can choose to go or stay.

9.) 07 Jul 2017 19:20:22
Let him rot in the reserves 😂😂. That'll go down well with anyone you wanna buy. Yea if you play well and we aren't contending like an ambitious person like you want them you'll rot in the reserves.

10.) 07 Jul 2017 19:27:52
To right steve. It's ok making clubs out to be a holes for making players stay. In this day and age players have short memory's the fact is that Sanchez didn't cut it at an elite club that's why he came to us. He was great before Barcelona and great after (not that he was to bad at Barca) but they took 30 million for him which is the price of an average defender in this day and age. I'm sure there is a good if not great offer on the table and if he doesn't want to take it then fine but he has a contract to honour and should be made to do so.

11.) 07 Jul 2017 20:20:02
sorry ed, predictive changed it, i should of checked, i ment lemar.

{Ed033's Note - Best to turn off predictive

12.) 07 Jul 2017 21:42:32
am I the only one that thinks he's asking for 400k because he knows we won't pay it and it could force arsenal to sell.

13.) 07 Jul 2017 22:48:43
Good post Sanogo.

Could be Derby.

14.) 07 Jul 2017 21:43:12
Ed 033 but then you have the problem of sausage fingers.

{Ed033's Note - i think it's auto correct you turn off and turn on predictive

All very quiet on the transfer front eds. is nothing happening at the moment regarding potential transfers, or is it all just the same stuff, I. e. Lemar first choice, we won't meet valuation, so we turn to mahrez.

DT2

{Ed002's Note - Nothing happened overnight as far as I know.}

1.) 31 Jul 2017 11:33:55
I think we will meet the asking price for Lemar eventually, it's all a bit flat in the run up to the season and we have the money and Arsene and the board need the fans to be full of optimism rather than pesimism going into the season at least.
If we spend and things go badly people will be a lot more understanding for a lot longer than if we are not seen to be trying to improve
I'm pretty sure the club will do what it needs to do to give the Emirates some sort of chance of at least starting the season with excitement.
Difficult to think otherwise really.

2.) 31 Jul 2017 12:08:46
Or gunner we can dilly dally and miss out like we normally do, panic and buy another downgrade.

3.) 31 Jul 2017 12:31:41
We could Steve but I'm not sure the club really wants to start the season on the back foot with the fans and will do enough to get most on their side come kick off on the 12th mate.
The club could be more than happy to have another season of empty seats and the media mocking but I'm not convinced they are as up for that as some people give them credit for.

4.) 31 Jul 2017 12:43:16
The merry go round is just getting started and when the big boys step in we will be thrown off.

5.) 31 Jul 2017 13:09:48
That is always a possibility Steve but not the only possibility mate.
Two weeks to kick off and 24 hours in football this time of year can see a lot change let alone 2 weeks mate.
Who knows by Friday Sanchez could be at City Ox at Liverpool and Kos at utd? Don't give up yet Steve mate :-)

6.) 31 Jul 2017 13:12:45
Liverpool want lemar also so we better hurry up and agree a fee or he be going there.

7.) 31 Jul 2017 17:10:05
I think another reason is we are having trouble moving our dead wood on. The squad could become unbalanced as far as quotas are concerned. I think we will end up loaning them all out again to any takers.

8.) 31 Jul 2017 17:48:06
If Liverpool are interested Stephen that can only be a good thing for us mate as it forces our hands and takes away our usual patience in being prepared to wait and wait and wait until finally and only after months of long drawn out speculation and rumours when the club has teased us the player and the entire footballing world,
Absolutely nothing happens :-)

26 Jul 2017 14:44:56
Monaco say Lemar/ Fabinho aren't leaving. Mahrez it is. yay.

12 Jul 2017 21:46:12
Hi eds

Absolutely BUZZING to see Ozil has said he wants to stay. Hopefully with the signings of lacazette and Ozils extension, this is enough signal of intent for Sanchez to commit.

I still feel like we need another central midfielder and a winger.

Eds have you heard anything about goretzka. I saw we were linked with him but I've not heard anything since.

Also is there any update on the Lemar/ Mahrez situations since I last asked.

Thanks again Eds. top notch work as always!

DT2

1.) 12 Jul 2017 23:32:09
He by said staying is his preferred option not that he is signing a new contract, my guess is things will drag on until January with Mesut much like Theo has done twice now resulting in him getting a really good result.

2.) 13 Jul 2017 07:12:45
not sure theo was ever in his last year of deal or was he can't remember.

3.) 13 Jul 2017 08:48:28
I could be wrong Derby but I think it happend twice with Theo, certainly the last time a couple of years back it was reported in the January he was free to talk to potential new clubs as he was out of contract that summer.
We only ever know what we read but I remember Arsene repeatedly being quoted as saying he was confident Theo would stay even though he could move for free.

Man City have spent £120m on full backs in the last 10 days. ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY MILLION. ONE FULL BACKS. And we won't spent 30m on a talented young midfielder like Leon Goretzka. I understand we're not as rich as Man City. But we're Arsenal, not bloody Burnley!
