Rumours that we are after Nathan Ake in the summer. An excellent player, hope it's true and we sign him.

ARG

1.) 11 Feb 2020 18:43:48
Spurs are linked with him too and if it comes to the highest bidder I'm pretty sure Jose will be urging Levy to do what it takes to get him.

06 Aug 2019 15:04:31
Just read an odd article that said Coutinho to Arsenal on a season loan is a done deal. Doesn't make much sense when we need a CB and a LB.
I would of course live to see Coutinho at the club, but I can't believe this is going to happen.

ARG

1.) 06 Aug 2019 18:13:26
Or off to Spuds maybe?

2.) 07 Aug 2019 02:17:44
Usually or always the sun is one awful newspaper to hear from.

3.) 07 Aug 2019 08:33:54
I can't see this one happening tbh. The squad is already unbalanced. Unless we can sell Ozil and Mhiki in the last two days of the window, any investment ought to go to a centre half. I have to confess to not having seen Upemecano play, but Rugani has always impressed.

Best, UC.

4.) 07 Aug 2019 09:34:03
Having said that, I have just read (could be utter nonsense) that Ozil may be on his way to DC United to replace Rooney. If so, I would gladly take Coutinho in his stead. That's my analytically fickle contributions for today.

04 Aug 2019 11:17:48
Apparently we are favourites to sign Coutinho! Mad summer at the Emirates. Imagining a midfield 3, in front of Torreira and Xhaka of Pepe, Ceballos and Coutinho! Lacazette and Aubameyang fighting for the sole striking slot.
It seems that Emery believes attack is the best form of defence.

ARG

1.) 04 Aug 2019 12:01:38
If we were to sign him and not strengthen the defence then it would be the worse case of mismanagement i can remember seeing and pretty much Emery signing his own p45.
The first heavy defeat and he would be under huge pressure, I genuinely don't think Emery is that silly.

2.) 04 Aug 2019 13:00:33
Like adding hp to your car so it goes really fast. But ignoring its got a brake problem.

3.) 04 Aug 2019 14:54:12
You wouldn't put a bloke like that in charge of a transport department would you.
It's like giving a kid the weekly shopping budget and expecting them to remember fruit veg and toilet rolls, it's only natural they will spend all the money on sweets!

4.) 04 Aug 2019 15:36:46
Özil our courtinhio In be nice and cb I think Kolasinac is ok so not really bothered about a left back.

5.) 04 Aug 2019 17:25:37
Remember both Liverpool and city focused on improving the attack before they did anything with the defense. Only one and a half year ago van Dijk arrived.

6.) 04 Aug 2019 18:16:09
Daft but let's be honest if he is available, willing to move to us and affordable hard to say no really for such a quality player. My only logic to it is that Emery is trying to Force Ozil in particular out. A loan swap would not be bad idea tbh.

There is always plenty of good attacking talent availble if you are prepared to spend big but availble quality defenders are much harder to come by.

If we could sell Miki, Iwobi and Elneney to raise funds that would help maybe get around 35-40million at a push for them 3. Plus hopefully 8-9 mill For Kos that's close to 50Mill then for a quality CB and good saving in wages.

7.) 04 Aug 2019 18:37:14
City conceded 39 goals in Peps first season finishing 3rd on 78 points, Liverpool conceded 42 goals in Klopps first full season and finished 4th on 76 points while Arsenal conceded 51 goals and finished 5th finishing on 70 points in Emerys first season Nor mate so were they're defensive needs ever as dire as ours mate?

In their second seasons Pep broke the record points total with 100 points and Klopp reached the champions league final, no one for one minute expects those sorts of achievements from Emery second season but people are expecting real genuine undisputed improvements and if failing to address the defensive issues stops that happening should Emery keep his job Nor mate?

Emery is gambling everything on being able to score enough goals to make up for those he's happy to accept us conceding, brave or foolish surely he's accountable for the results of his decisions should they provd to be brilliant or horrendous as next season unfolds.

8.) 04 Aug 2019 18:48:10
It’s a stupid gamble, His approach is totally indefensible.

9.) 04 Aug 2019 19:33:52
I’ve always been the first to have a go at emery but the transfer window isn’t over yet, if he doesn’t get any defenders then I’ll be slating him all season lol.

10.) 04 Aug 2019 20:01:17
Agree Ryan if someone offers you a Bentley at a crazy price its extremely tempting but when you already have a Mercedes plus BMW in the garage can you really justify doing without a fridge cooker or washing machine to afford it.
As for defenders availability there are plenty of CBS and full backs out there you've just got to get the best you can get rather than do nothing because you can't get your ideal choices.
Welsh I agree with you too mate the window isn't shut yet and until it does we can't definitely say Emery is totally naive enough to think he can blagg an entire season with no defence, but all signs so far suggest he very well might be.

11.) 04 Aug 2019 21:24:29
Do any of you actually know if emery is in charge of transfers? I’m not sure he is.

12.) 04 Aug 2019 21:58:35
He wasn't 337 but I'm pretty sure once Sven went player choice became his.

13.) 04 Aug 2019 22:24:43
I must say it does make me laugh that when we sign pepe so many was quick to praise raul. But the thought of getting coutinho and not sorting the defence will be emerys fault. Make up you mind guys either they're both his ideas or neither. Which I belive is the latter.

14.) 04 Aug 2019 22:54:06
Thars a very fair comment 16 mate, but you've got to admit that our signings so far are very much in line with Emerys 100% own comments on being happy to win 5 3.
Every thing Emery has said and his tactics and way he sets the team out are in keeping with our summer signings so far, extremely attack biased.

03 Aug 2019 14:18:19
Apparently Barcelona want 27 million for a loan deal involving Coutinho. Not bad if it's a 5 year loan.

ARG

1.) 03 Aug 2019 17:09:01
If they are asking that it prob includes his 300k per week wages which is 15mil, if it happens I’ll eat my hat!

Would much prefer we went back in for Zaha.

2.) 03 Aug 2019 17:57:00
Much prefer we talked and sectioned improving the damn defence as it’s porous at best. I’ve seen nothing preseason to suggest we’re better organised. Looks like we are going to try to outscore the opposition - that will be tricky as our midfield has not really stepped up with goals except Rambo. Plus PEA isn’t ruthless enough.

Please please please sign a defensive coach and at least 2 or 3 defenders. We’ve got enough firepower in youth, existing and new signings.

{Ed047's Note - I appreciate pre season isn’t a real guide but we have looked like a carbon copy of last seasons awful defending, which is naturally a concern.

I believe a CB is still on the cards to come in and we need to look beyond Tierney who is way to injury prone. Seems to have a recurring hip problem.

3.) 03 Aug 2019 19:08:01
There is no fear factor when playing Arsenal simply because all teams aleats fancy there chances of scoring past us.
Any team that keeps it tight against at the back automatically gains the upper hand because they absolutely know we will always gift them chances in the game.

4.) 03 Aug 2019 18:44:48
Cahill has been made an offer but it seems to have gone quiet. I presume he’s been made a 2 year offer by a lesser team.

5.) 03 Aug 2019 18:49:19
Like medical failing recurring hip problem? Does it matter? Källström had a broken back.
But seriously, why are we after him if he’s crocked?

{Ed047's Note - he’s lost over 140 days with 3 separate hip injuries and that surely has to be a concern.

6.) 03 Aug 2019 18:53:31
That’s exactly what I said the other day, from what I’ve seen from the preseason game it was exactly where we left it last season, and if we continue to be this rubbishy organised at the even if we had VVD we will still be leaking goals, but if it carries on like that I’m sure we will be looking for Emery’s replacement.

7.) 03 Aug 2019 19:00:54
Ed, who heads up our defensive coaching? They need to be fired.

{Ed047's Note - Carcedo and Villanueva are the first team coaches with Emery, they brought in Freddie but I don’t think any of them can be classed as defensive coaches mate.

8.) 03 Aug 2019 19:10:32
Hmm, first time I've heard that about Tierney. Still have Kolasinac though, right?

{Ed047's Note - he’s also lost 85 days with ruptured ankle ligaments, 22 days with a calf injury, first hurt his hip in Dec 18, then again in April 19 followed by groin surgery in May 19 and a further hip problem in June 19 which is still causing him the problem now.

9.) 03 Aug 2019 19:25:56
We are currently like a boxer with a glass jaw and no matter how powerful you are on the attack if you can't take a few punches you are always as likely to get picked off with sucker punches and see your chances of ever being a contender heavily reduced.

10.) 03 Aug 2019 19:43:15
So we don’t have any defensive coach? Did Tyson just have a dietician. wtf

That’s annoyingly stupid and naive of the club - I xxxxing give up with this bunch. Just as I start feeling good I hear that. I’m off for a rose wine

No wonder we are clueless in defence - why hasn’t Emery addressed this gaping hole in the back room staff

Sorry Malaga - not a positive post but you must admit it’s pure stupidity from Emery.

{Ed047's Note - of the two coaches Carcedo is the more defensive, he was a midfielder where as Villanueva was a striker.

When he arrived it was muted that Carcedo wouldn’t be happy that we’d conceded 51 goals.

The hope has to be that once Mustafi is moved on and someone better brought in that maybe he can then work some magic.

11.) 03 Aug 2019 19:58:56
Ed that’s very precise detail re the injuries to Tierney

Maybe we could suggest you got out a bit more 😂.

{Ed047's Note - I get out regularly, with my carer! 🥴

12.) 03 Aug 2019 20:10:02
Thanks Ed.

To be fair with or without Mustafi we’re disorganised at best. I blame the coach and to not have a specialist defensive coach screams stupidity from the club and manager. It’s out Achilles Heel and needs protecting / sorting / acknowledging - so so so frustrating.

Again - thank you for responding to my ranting questions. I know it must be hard staying professional on responses with idiots like me. I love our club and want to win but we can’t if we can’t defend. I wAnt Emery to succeed but he’s not helping himself

Thanks and happy Saturday.

13.) 03 Aug 2019 20:35:51
Not having a defensive coach is nothing new, pretty much like Arsene Emery doesn't seem the type to share responsibility with anyone who would compromise his attacking philosophy.
It's incredible that we parted with our last manager because he refused to address the obvious weaknesses with someone who shares the same ideas.

14.) 03 Aug 2019 21:58:26
Can’t believe the board doesn’t sort this out especially if we’re investing 💰💰💰💰💰💰💰.

15.) 03 Aug 2019 22:28:12
They will SY, if we don't improve significantly between now and January February I think Fredie will be caretaker manager for the remainder of the season.
I genuinely don't see the board allowing Emery to continue to ignore our defence needs all by next season.
Edu will be watching every game I'm sure and I can't see him being happy to watch us get sucker punched on a regular basis without having a word in influential ears.

16.) 04 Aug 2019 11:21:21
Like surely it has to be cheaper and a wiser choice economically to employ a specialist defensive coach to improve what we have currently than to say the defenders are a flop and try and buy new ones and continue to train them with if what's said above is true two midfielders and a striker, surely they are going to regress, mustafi was highly regarded before he signed and we were willing to pay £30+ million for him. We can sign the best players, but if we train them badly we are never getting anywhere!

17.) 04 Aug 2019 12:08:28
100% agree Eden, good players do regress at Arsenal and have for a decade now.

18.) 04 Aug 2019 15:27:00
Keown.

02 Aug 2019 21:23:09
Reports of Coutinho on loan from Barca! What a crazy window, much more fun than under Gazidis and Wenger!

ARG

1.) 02 Aug 2019 22:22:16
Don't think it's true for a second, I think the rumour inventors have simply changed tact from 45 million budget to linking us with everyone and anyone to cash in on our buzz since Pepe came out of nowhere.

2.) 02 Aug 2019 22:39:12
I’ve heard, messi from Barca, bale from Madrid and Ronaldo on loan too 😂.

3.) 03 Aug 2019 01:12:02
For starters the move wouldn’t interest him let’s be honest.

4.) 03 Aug 2019 08:11:17
I'm pretty sure a CB will arrive before Friday and probably Tierney too.

5.) 03 Aug 2019 16:50:45
Cant realy see this happening atall unless its a swap loan deal perhaps with Ozil which would be interesting? we pretty well stock attacking wise with Pepe coming in., CB and Tierney now seem the priority.

Reports of Elneny to Galatasaray. Another decent, honest pro. Simply not good enough.
G62's man-crush, Chambers next?

ARG

1.) 07 Aug 2019 12:05:08
Oooh get you RG! How's life with Tobykins and Poccy Wochy now days, you been spending some 1 on 2 time in your Monaco penthouse this summer :-)

2.) 07 Aug 2019 12:10:48
Chambers is ahead of Mustafi in my eyes. So Mustafi next please.

3.) 07 Aug 2019 13:04:11
Chambers stays. Elneny can and should go.

4.) 07 Aug 2019 13:25:09
To be fair Olber, that's not much of a compliment to Chambers, as i think my Cat is ahead of Mustafi.

06 Aug 2019 06:15:31
The next 2 days are huge. If we sign a CB and a LB, it will have been an awesome window. If we don't make any more signings it will have been a mixed window, with only one quality first team permanent signing in Pepe. Ceballos is only a season loan deal. Martinelli at 18 is one for the future and Saliba ialso only 18, doesn't arrive until 2020-21.
With no more signings our porous defence, with Koscielny odds in to depart will be weaker, and it clearly needs a CB and a LB. Fingers crossed we get Tierney and a quality CB. In respect of players leaving, it looks like Koscielny and Jenkinson may well move. Don't forget we can still sell or loan players to other leagues until their windows close.

ARG

05 Aug 2019 06:52:50
I hope the young talent get a chance to play. Willock is fast emerging as a quality player. Saka at only 17 is special and the one to watch. I was also impressed by Nelson and Martinelli. Guendouzi has already shown much promise, but needs to be less erratic. I like Thompson, the young left back.
If handled correctly and brought through we have the nucleus of a very good young squad:
Macey Iliev
Maitland-Niles Saliba Medley Thompson
Torreira Willock Burton
Nelson Guendouzi Iwobi Saka Smith-Rowe
Nketiah Martinelli

Some have already made the step up to the first team. The challenge is to bring others through.

ARG

02 Aug 2019 07:30:13
It will be interesting to see how Emery sets out the team this season. He tends to prefer a back 4 and wants both Lacazette and Aubameyang up top. The obvious formation to accommodate this is 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1, but theses formations have their problems in the modern game.

He could play 4-3-3, with Pepe joining up top. His much favoured 4-2-3-1 has it's problems accommodating all our fire power.
I have a feeling he will use different formations at home and away.
Thoughts?

ARG

1.) 02 Aug 2019 10:36:48
I've no idea what Emery will do but 4 4 2 might being stability where defenders defend and attackers attack in order to bring some much needed ballance to the team.
We've seen where shot swapping gets us so time for a different approach.

01 Aug 2019 16:44:27
Pepe!
Now Tierney, Rugani and Zaha!

ARG

1.) 01 Aug 2019 19:03:08
And still finish 5th😁.

2.) 01 Aug 2019 19:20:20
Can't see Zaha happening now and now we have Pepe I am not really that bothered Pepe better choice to me for that kind of cash anyway. Rugani and Tierney in would make this a very good window. Mustafi out aswell would be even better. If all that happened I think we have a real decent shout at Top4 which has to be top priority this season the league.

3.) 02 Aug 2019 00:08:43
Why would anyone still think Zaha is a possibility? That is just ludicrous. Thank the heavens they got Pépé.

Bellerin and Holding are back in September and were part of the team that went unbeaten for a large part of the season. Most teams would suffer defensively if two of their first choice back four were out for a large part of the season. Would Liverpool have won the CL with such injuries to Van Dijk and Robertson? As for Tierney, of course he belongs to Celtic, but reports are that he will still join and we may bring in a CB too. The players will have had another full pre-season to get used to Emery’s methods. I do wish certain contributors would stop being so negative and get behind the manager and the team, who made a definite improvement last season and only need a slight improvement to restore CL football.

Don’t forget that last season we had two defenders out injured for a large part of the season.
We could line up: Bellerin Sokratis Hokding and Tierney. Not bad at all.

It would be best for both the player and the club if he moved on. His style simply doesn’t suit the PL. It is interesting that we haven’t signed a single defender in this window.
Tierney may arrive and I would love to see Mustafi sold and a quality replacement brought in. With only a week to go, assuming we sign Pepe and Tierney I will be pleased with the window, but the icing on the cake would be a CB out and one in.

It’s so depressing that our negotiators seem so poor. The two signings that should happen this week, Ceballos and Saliba are also tainted. Saliba an 18 year old costing somewhere between £25-35m, doesn’t arrive this season and Ceballos is only a season loan deal. If Celtic want £25m up front for Tierney, this should be possible for a club of Arsenal’s size and wealth. Unless we make the 4 signings touted, then we are going into the season with a weaker squad than last season. Zaha and Tierney would have excited the fans. Let’s hope things start to happen as the window nears its end.

Reiss Nelson needs match time. However, Arsenal currently have quite a few youngsters who all play wide: Nelson, Saka, Martinelli, Smith-Rowe. With a wide signing being sought, it would be great if the youngsters could provide back up, play in the League Cup and possibly in some Europa League matches. It is a problem that needs solving, as to how a top 6 PL club brings through talented youngsters, who generally lack the physicality for regular first team football and of course lack the necessary experience. Promoting Freddie to first team coach was an intelligent move.

A good, honest pro, but not good enough to play PL football.
News emerging that Elneny may also be sold during this window.
The squad is becoming more streamlined, freeing up wages for new signings and allowing our talented youngsters to emerge.
I would like to see Mustafi, Ozil, Chambers (G62's man-crush) and Mkhitaryan moved on. Probably not in this window, with time so short.

Probably the right time for Koscielny to depart, nearing 34 and not quite the same since his serious injury. I just hope we sign a quality CB beforehand window closes. Yes, we have a decent pairing of Sokratis and Holding, but the rest are unimpressive to say the least.
