The questions for me are; 1) Considering we insist on playing out from the back, why are we so rubbish at it the minute the other team press? What do we practice in training all week? 2) Considering we see time and again how difficult it is to play out from the back when the other team presses, why don't we press? Tottenham had destroyed Burnley within 20 minutes. Why, because they pressed and dominated. If so called good teams struggle to beat the press, then surely not so good teams, and let's be honest Even by their own standards, that was a poor Burnley team, struggle even more. 3) why do we incentivise teams to press by playing so slow? If I was Sean Dych I would be gutted that they gave Arsenal so much space early on. I think if they had have pressed from the start, they would have won. If you encourage teams to press, surely you play a style where if you beat the press, then you aim to break quickly and get in on goal, so you give the other team a risk, to press or not. We beat the press and frequently do nothing, in fact more often than not the ball will go sideways for a while before ending up all the way back to Leno, giving the opposition an easy decision to press as you have plenty of time to get back and defend deep as well.

Our goal came from playing out from the back, in my eyes it’s not about playing our form the back. It’s about sensing danger and when it’s time to go long.
Your point about spurs is a good one but as ever, teams learn from mistakes. except us it seems. Plus the spurs pitch is suitable for knocking the ball around Burnley play on a rugby pitch, maybe the have stokes old grounds man.
