After that performance it's so obvious that we need to go and spend top money and buy a Van Dyke quality center back.

Over the past few years we have had so many bang average players in that position and have spent a lot of money buying those average players, rather than spending big and only spending big, once.

Paulista, Mustafi, Chambers, Mertesacker, Vermalean, even Koscielny has been hit and miss ( when he's fit) I've never been able to go into a match and confidently think that we won't have issues at the back.

If the summer budget has anything to go by, Emery won't have much to spend, and it's always harder to get players in, in the January window, it would be ideal to get someone like Koulibaly in, he's a monster, he would work wonders in our defence, a proper man mountain, but I can never see us spending decent money on someone that good.

Shame.

Koulibaly is an animal. And considering the issues he is having in italy, in addition to the well known problems against people of African descent in that country, he might want to leave. Especially considering how the Italy FA don't seem bothered. But yeah, he is definitely an elite talent. I'd love him alongside VVD.

I'd be happy with someone like Upamencano, Ed, he's a real talent, I just this we need to make a statement by saying we want Koulibaly, how much do you want for him, Napoli? we've seen the difference VVD has made to Liverpool's back line, that sort of transfer would jump us up the table back into the top 4 without a doubt.

Also whilst on the subject, alderwield has a 25m release clause apparently. Not sure if it's to certain clubs or if Spuds don't meet his demands in the league. But that would really pi** them off. And I think we all want that to happen.

Koulibaly is an absolute colossus figuratively and literally and I really can’t see him being sold for anything less than VVD money. Although he would immediately improve your defense for me you need more to make that leap into the top 4. Do you think Arsenal will spend £75million on a defender? Also you probably won’t offer him Champions League football next year either. Hence why I suggested someone like Upamencano who wouldn’t super expensive, is probably attainable but will also improve you immensely.
