I'm not trying to put a downer on things but after 17 games:

2018/19 - 34 points
2017/18 - 30 ponts
2016/17 - 34 points
2015/16 - 37 points

We're there or therabouts where we've been for the previous 4 seasons. No better and no worse really.

Agree0 Disagree1

At least we are on an upward trend from last year.

21 Dec 2018 09:30:16
I'm not sure that's how trends work Steve 😂

At this point, I'm not saying change wasn't needed. I'm not denying the fact that some players appear to be putting in a slightly harder shift. I'm simply saying that the change in manager hasn't yet changed our points tally, which is what matters at the end of a season.

We have stopped the downward trend that's for sure

What would it be this season without change 28?

This is the toughest premier league top 4 battle I can ever remember, long gone are the days where United Chelsea Arsenal were sinply formalities and the only question was who would join them.
Our problem was we became subconsciously top 4 content and happy as we were which allowed others to catch then overtake and leave us behind.

21 Dec 2018 16:54:49
i don't think as fans we were subconsiouly content with top 4, medeocraty has been drummed in to us! its only the last couple years where we would really appreciate a top 4 finish as an achievement. Before that we always thought we had a chance of winning at the start of the season. it was only a few seasons ago we were having debates about whether we could win the league with giroud as our main striker, not just make top 4, top 4 was a given and since we've had sanchez and now lacca and auba all much better strikers in a goal scoring sence, but ironically our teams and points gained have declined.

Eden, we are scoring as many as Liverpool but letting in as many as the teams in the relegation zone. Tells you where we are struggling.

21 Dec 2018 18:35:58
Scrapping the bottom of the barrel there g62 by referring to that as a "trend". The reality is we're a couple of games better AND worse off than we have been in the previous 3 seasons.

I concede that we need 2 or 3 seasons to evaluate how much better off we are under current management. I'm not rushing to judgement either way, because on the face of things, we're exactly where we have been (on average) .

What is a trend Sharpie?
A pattern on a grath that is either consistently stagnant upward or downward.
It's way to early for Arsenal under Dick to establish any sort of real trend of its own.
But the figure you provided from before Dick arrived unquestionably show a year on year downward trend.
37 34 30 speaks for itself, we were going nowhere at best and backwards at worst
Let's look again in May because then we can make a better comparison between Dicks first full season and Arsenes 20th 21st and 22nd seasons.

You've answered your own question mate: "It's way to early for Arsenal under Dick to establish any sort of real trend of its own. " So while I am fully aware of what a trend is, I wouldn't be calling that a trend.

I wasn't the one that brought trend into the conversation. I am simply stating that we are no better or no worse off than we have been in the previous 3 seasons.

I see people on this site, prior to our last 2 defeats, lauding Emery for bringing the best out of the players. After the aforementioned two defeats it's all, "it's because he's having to play Wenger's dregs". I'm just adding a little perspective.

21 Dec 2018 21:01:00
And it's very fair prospective too mate but it's almost impossible to compare 4 months work next to 22 years fairly, I've always said in 3 years we will all know own if Dick is capable of getting us back to where we would like to be.
It's only his fantastically positive start that has sent pulses racing and excitement levels through the roof again.

22 Dec 2018 17:30:53
Well he isn't working with George Grahams dreggs. He has been in the job 4 month and you can't compare it to someone who had built his team for years and couldn't in the end muster a performance against top four teams, arguably Dick is doing that after 4 months, with wengers dreggs.

23 Dec 2018 04:27:21
Steve, be pedantic if you must mate, but don't expect any rational person to buy the drivel you're selling.

When it suits, "Emery is getting the best out of the players. He's amazing""

Lose a couple of games and it's back to, "Oh, it's because he's playing with Wenger's dregs. "

Maybe it's just me, but I find this highly hypocritical and disrespectful of a manager that served our club for over two decades. At some point even you have to stop blaming him for the performances of this team.

Some sing we've got our Arsenal back
While others feel their Arsenal stopped existing last May.

We have always been Arsenal football club but for a while there we seemed to morth into Arsene football club and there were quite a lot of people who liked it that way and are now struggling to identify with an Arsenal that doesn't involve Arsene as their club anymore.
just as some people lost all interest in Arsenal and football completely because of Arsene remaining in charge some have and will drift away because he's no longer on charge.
Some wounds take time to fully heal and although the Arsene in out war is over its going to take time for grudges to be forgotten both ways.

23 Dec 2018 17:08:12
Sharpe, i'm not hypocritical or disrespectful, i say it as i see it. Dick is working with and trying too correct the obvious wrongs that every man and his dog could see was wrong with the players and the way we played under wenger, that's pretty much fact. Until we get rid of the wenger lagacy we won't see the full Unai Emery team. It still has wenger influences in it good and bad.

23 Dec 2018 18:15:11
Also Sharpe, i'm not sure i'm selling anything, just having an opinion. Some may disagree with me and that's fine. No that's life.
