Don’t know about anyone else but yesterday was embarrassing, i am fuming with the line up, why on earth are we scared to play Man City at home, we should have gone at them like Liverpool did and Liverpool weren’t scared to do it either! I know it’s only one game but we are home and should have gone for it.

Liverpool has a speedy front 3 - we only have Auba. Mkhi and Ozil aren't wingers - putting them against Mendy and Walker means they've to track back a lot making them sitting ducks.
We're not strong enough defensively to play a 4-4-2 with Laca and Auba plus most of our players from last season still lack confidence and have an inferiority complex vs Mancity.

I don't think you can slate the team too much It going to take time for Emery to stamp his authority and methods on the team and take a couple of transfer windows at least to get all the personel he wants. As a squad overall we lack natural wide players all our midfielders are central based and our fullbacks are quite poor in offering delivery when out wide and often leave us exposed also. I think until we get proper wide men we should go to 3-5-2 (3-2-3-2 it be more precise) but focus on our central core strength and not use the fullbacks as wingbacks as that is our main weak area.

Use Lacazette and Aubu to pull out wide when required when attacking with their pace and energy to get any crosses in from one particular side of play. In my view there is no point is using fullbacks/ wingbacks to take up two spaces to try and cover a weak area when it would still be exposed anyway against the good teams with them in anyway as they are too poor defensivly anyway even in
back 4.

Yeah me too mate, I'm surprised we haven't won the league yet this season, absolutely embarrassing.

It was embarrassing the line up just made me laugh.

To be fair id say the reaction from most of our fans is embarrassing. Give it time even pep had to take time to work things out.

Trust the process lads, I had questions about the lineup as well but Emery needs time to evaluate and put his stamp on the team's identity.

We literally could not have had a tougher opener (maybe City away lol) so let's get behind the team.

Crybaby, I’m surprised the board didn’t appoint you as Wengers replacement, give Dick a chance, he can hardly see what he’s got in friendlies, the PL is where he we realise the squads potential.

Patience is necessary as massive changes are taking place at the club.
In Emery's defence, the team I selected before the City match had only one change from the actual team selected.
Against Chelsea I would be more pragmatic and select:
Cech
Lichtsteiner Mustafi Sokratis Monreal
Ramsey Elneny Torreira Xhaka
Lacazette Aubameyang

The midfield would be far more workmanlike, whilst the twin strikers could cause Chelsea problems.

xhaka out on the wing again? no thanks.

Pretty sure Emery mentioned that he didn't like the passing when we were in 4-4-2 formation during preaeason.

Hoping to see Auba out wide and Laca through the middle with Torreira given a start.

Anyone know if Monreal is fit to start? If not, Lichsteiner would have to play there.

@JW - In my line up, Xhaka wouldn't be played on the wing, he would be on the left of a midfield four, which is very different.
I agree with AA23 that Emery is highly unlikely to play 4-4-2, although I believe there is an argument in playing it against the likes of City and Chelsea in order to play with two banks of 4 to provide protection.
Assuming Emery continues with a 4-3-3 formation, which seems likely, I would expect a team along the following lines:
Cech
Bellerin Mustafi Sokratis Lichtsteiner (Monreal on the bench)
Ramsey Torreira Xhaka
Ozil Aubameyang Mkhitaryan

Although I wouldn't be at all surprised if he plays Guendouzi and drops either Mkhitaryan or Ozil.
So the midfield three and attacking three as follows:
Guendouzi Torreira Xhaka
Ramsey Aubameyang Ozil.

I agree with this RG61, and I expect more changes to be made in the coming transfer windows. It appears to me as though the entire team is under evaluation at the moment, with no favorites being given special treatment.

I think we will keep with 4-3-3 and have the flexibility to switch to a 4-1-4-1 for greater protection.

My only question is Ramsey. We can't afford another Alexis saga and if a good offer comes in I would be tempted to sell, depending on what type of replacement is available. Bitter sweet for me, as AR8 has had great moments here but no one is bigger than the team.
