Emery inherited a squad that had finished in 6th place and were knocked out of the FA Cup in the 3rd round by a poor Notts Forest side. The side had no true DM's and no wingers. Emery has brought in the excellent Torreira and is now reported to be trying to sign a winger, Malcolm and Perisic are the latest reports.
This season is turning out to be one where in all likelyhood we will finish 6th again, whilst the team is being transformed and has suffered 3 season ending injuries to date. In the summer I expect at least 5 more departures and players will be brought in. The fans have to show patience as Emery addresses a decade of decline that was evident. In addition the backroom has had an almost complete transition.

Arsenal as a club either won’t or can’t spend a fortune to challenge city and Liverpool for the title. This has been a policy going back to at least 2005. People scoffed at top four trophy but now us utd Chelsea and Spuds fighting for it. Since 2005 think of the important players we have sold Henry Fab van Persie clichy Sagna Nasri etc etc. All to fund The Emirates! If you tot up what our team is WORTH in the transfer market I am struggling to get above £200 mill. You take Pool Salah must be worth 150 mill on his own same with hazard, Kane, Alli, de bruyne, Pogba . My point is we have bought extremely poorly aiming for top four at best . We are shopping at bargain basement trouble is so are most clubs so tougher to get good cheap buys. Like it or not no one in our squad is worth massive money and we aren’t investing. We have to be patient and trust we make good young buys who become good players and we can sell on but hopefully keep. Forget the forward lines Pool and City have spent more on their defences than our whole team is worth! No surprise we are where we are! I happen to believe Emery is the man to take us forward but we need patience COYG.

Totally agree with the two of you that Emery is the man to take us forward. I think he has been great. My only qualm about the guy and his coaching team is that they have been in the job 6-8 months and we still can't defend as a unit. I know we have injuries but we still can't step up together for offside, mark attackers for set pieces or know when to slide in. The decision making is really poor. The full backs don't have a clue what the center halves are doing and then throw xhaka in the mix it really is a shambles.

Totally agree boys patience is needed but equally so is progress defensively, there is Just no getting away from the fact we are as bad as ever in that department.
The longer Dick doesn't get any improvement in our organisation discipline at the back in in midfield defence wise the less patient people will become.
We've had more than a decade with a very poor defence and haven't challenged because of it.
Until we are defensively adequate everything else will go to waste.
Build from the back if we want a different outcomes, offensively we may not be the best but we are adequate in that department to make a real fight of top 3 to 4 but at the back we are bottom half calibre.
It's not all about new players because the ones we have are betrer than they look when playing for Arsenal, organisation discipline coaching to work as a unit, it's the only way.

Paddy - so true and I can’t figure out why they’ve not improved. Surely a more vocal and defensive coach plus Bould allowed to coach the defence now ( by all accounts he wasn’t allowed under Wenger or was just ineffective. ) should show improvement. Torriera isn’t the defensive solution but adds energy and bite. We must sign The young Watford CDM along with a good young CD who defends properly.

Not convinced by Leno yet.

Need some creativity also. Annoying thing is, we will do this and have the team Ozil should be a part of but will off load him because he doesn’t work hard enough for Emery. Crying shame and concerned we end up playing boring football with a packed midfield as that seems to be his answer.

3 at the back - 4 in midfield with two proper central midfielders, Ozil in the hole with Laca and PEA up front.

The 3 at the back can never leave less than 3 at the back so coordinate with the 4 midfielders to ensure always cover. Simple.

I'd make any win bonuses defensive orientated, with with a clean sheet 100% of bonus payable, win and concede 1 goal 50% payable win concede 2 25% payable and win and concede 3 then it's day off cancelled and a 8 hour lecture from Steve Bould on indigenous Moths of the UK in place of a day of chilling out.
Sounds fair to me.
