So the feeling is pretty unanimous we look better when Torreira is on the park. Guendouzi hasn’t done much wrong, so we all pick on xhaka and then he has a goood game. Try that in the next game xhaka and Torreira to start and see if that works. Cech has to be put out soon, I’m wondering when he will try Leno.

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally our problems are slapping us in the face. I don't want to tell Dick what he should be doing but it will all come out in the wash. Eventually, i think wether it is next week or next season, our midfield will be Gouendouzi and torreira. Or Dick won't be our manager. Lol.

16 Sep 2018 22:02:05
If Torreira Xhaka really works fantastic but surely it has work consistently and Xhaka can't keep living off 1 half decent game in 20.
Xhaka was much much better yesterday the best we've seen of him but let's not get carried away by a performance that didn't even win man of the match.
It was a vastly improved performance from Xhaka but even if he played that level all season he won't have City Barcelona or Real chasing him, he wasn't brilliant yesterday jusf far better than he's been before.

16 Sep 2018 23:52:35
Agree gunner but i don't see him as the future anyhow. I am excited for torreira and Gouendouzi. Maybe that's also why i'm impatient.

17 Sep 2018 06:53:03
Guendouzi started the first matches as Torreira was late arriving at the club after the World Cup finals and was behind in pre-season training, in addition he recently was away on international duty and hence Emery has sensibly used him sparingly in order to avoid injury.
Clearly Torreira is a true DM and our best one.
Guendouzi is a promising young player, but lacks experience and discipline in his play. In fact he reminds me very much, both in look, build and style of Elneny.
Xhaka is an excellent player and hence he has always been a first choice for his managers and has amassed trophies and fast approaching 70 international caps at only 25 years of age. The problem at Arsenal has been that we have lacked quality DM’s and he has often been used in this position when he is far more effective played as a defensive number 10, providing a link between the defence and attack, where his range of passing is most effective.
Torreira’s excellent positional sense allows Xhaka to play slightly further forward and look far better in all the matches where Torreira has come on. The likes of Guendouzi and Elneny simply lack the discipline and know-how as DM’s, which means Xhaka players deeper where he looks far less effective. I wouldn’t be at all surprise to see Torreira and Xhaka line up together against Everton. However, I hope they are rested midweek, when Guendouzi and Elneny can fill in against weaker opponents in the EL.

17 Sep 2018 13:34:13
Before I rip into the excellent can you please confirm he would get into the top 10/ 15 players of the same possition in the premier league and then reduce your list further to championship winning players of that possition. No doubt international and playing in the prem you have to be of a very high standard but is he excellent compared to others at play in this level? I don’t think so but that’s just my view.

17 Sep 2018 14:02:14
Excellent, is a gross over statement about a distinctly average premier league player.

17 Sep 2018 14:41:23
If we were to sell xhaka in the January tranfer window for say 20 mil (dont laugh we can ask) i wonder what sort of teams would come in for him. I think maybe west ham, everton, fulham in the prem, not sure any champs league teams would pay that much for him from foreign leagues. I wonder if utd would swap us with pogba, another over rated prem player. Lol.

17 Sep 2018 15:26:37
Of course Xhaka is an excellent player, he has been played out of position and in a relatively poor Arsenal side during his time at the club. He would no doubt slot into any of the top teams. Indeed Bayern Munich were reportedly interested him.
He was a first choice under Wenger and now Emery, two top managers, has 66 caps for Switzerland by the age of 25 and has won trophies as a player.
Its amusing that fans, one of whom has admitted that he relies under snippets from Match of the day, to suggest that they know better than the managers Xhaka has played under. With a true DM, such as Torreira he will blossom. If he played in the same team as Kante, at Chelsea, you would also see far better performanaces than when he used too deep to accomodate players that are not proficient DMs.

RG Bayern looked and walked and yes wenger played him in nearly every game in his two year and got ousted for poor performances and awful buys in his last three years. Arsenal have looked weak and poor while his presence in the team jas been there. Swittzerland is his national team and yes he plays regularly for them, they don't pull up too many trees, which i would actually describe xhaka. he's a poor excuse for a central midfielder and excellent is not the word to descibe him. In fact you are the only fan who has actually called him excellent. One goodish game against a struggling toon is not worthy of excellence. I for some reason think Dick will use him regularly but i also think it will be to the detriment of our performances and ultimately lead to pur continuing struggles. No top ten team in any league would buy him because he isn't good enough.

17 Sep 2018 16:28:49
Johann Djourou 75 caps for Switzerland . I think arguing over it is pointless, I just don’t think he’s that good.

17 Sep 2018 16:44:17
Sano but djourou is an excellent player.

17 Sep 2018 17:50:25
Why would Emery pick a player that he thought was hindering our performance, over one that would improve it? It's madness or conspiracy to think this is the case. Emery is clearly an accomplished coach, and experienced manager, and it's a weird game to play as a fan to assume he's an person or delusional because you disagree over his team selection. I'm not saying we have to be blindly supportive, but two months into the job, without 2-3 transfer windows to make use of, perhaps he's doing his best as a coach with the players he has? Personally I find it interesting to read about which players you'd like to see in the team and why. There are better midfielders than Xhaka in other teams, but teams don't work by filling them up with 'great' players, but designing a system to suit the players available or buying players to work in the style you want. Xhaka will have to prove his usefulness or be replaced, but we've a lack of play makers to pick from currently.

17 Sep 2018 18:36:18
Ned, i never said Dick would pick him, even though he thought he might hinder our performance. I think he will pick him, i think he hinders our performance, wenger picked him and i thought he hindered our performance. Its my opinion not Dicks, i don't know what he thinks. Managers/ coaches very often have favourite players that fans don't like, sometimes those players end up being the right pick, sometimes those players for whatever reason, end up leaving egg on their face. Its my opinion along with one or two others, we aren't going to solve our midfield problems with xhaka. I also think we aren't going to sort our goalkeeping, distribution problems with cech (he has never been good at distribution) which also is my opinion but Dick thinks differently. While we win, it is less of a problem, it all becomes very different, when we dont. That is also my opinion. I don't think we could have got a much better coach than Dick in the circumstances, that doesn't mean he is going to get everything right. My opinion isn't always right but that's what it is, my opinion. My opinon on xhaka is i want a better player playing there to help solve our problems in midfield, he has failed so far to sort out, since he joined us 2+ years ago. I've lost patience with him.

17 Sep 2018 19:42:15
With only my snippets of match of the day to on when ganes aren't on TV I deduce 20 years of top 4 finishes pre Xhaka and 0 since he joined and virtually played in every game of the last 2 Europa league finishing seasons, which neither suggests Xhaka has been excellent or vital for us but instead suggests Xhaka atrial has coincided with us going backwards.
Over to you and your humble and unassuming self RG mate :-)

17 Sep 2018 19:51:31
Considering Xhaka plays in such a key position he really doesn’t contribute very much, his assists are negligible, his goals are rare and passing isn’t that good .

17 Sep 2018 20:46:10
Yeah but apart from that he's good Banners. Lol.

17 Sep 2018 22:27:22
He's not even good apart from that Steve! His tackling is horrendous, his positioning is poor and he's slow. I don't understand what guendousi looks like has to do with anything that's totally irrelevant, his only similarity with elneny is he has long hair! 😂.

Xhaka
Basel - 2 League titles and 1 Swiss Cup in 2 seasons in the first team as a teenager
Arsenal - 1 FA Cup and 1 Community Shield in a poor era at the club
Switzerland - U17 World Cup winners
2012 - Swiss youth player of the year
2017 - Swiss player of the year
Swiss U21 - 37 matches, 11 goals
2012 - Sold to B Monchengladbach for £8.5m, aged 19.
2014-15 BM qualified for the CL finishing 3rd and Xhaka aged 22 was named in the League's team of the season
2015 Captained BM aged 22
2016 Signed for Arsenal aged 23 for £30-35m
2012 International debut aged 19

I belive he is improving under Emery, which will continue as he forms a partnership with the excellent Torreira. In his true position playing slightly more advanced he will be far more effective than in the deeper role he has been playing. I can see him captaining the side in the not too distant future.

18 Sep 2018 06:52:49
Eden - I must disagree with you in respect of Guendouzi, he is similar in style, build and look to Elneny. The difference is that at 19 years of age Guendouzi under Emery will improve as he gains experience and physicality. Elneny has his limitations as a player, but I wait to see if improved fitness and coaching under the new regime, improves him as a player.
Arsenal fans appear to be in a bit of a rut, after the anti-Wenger witchhunt. We must give Emery a chance to impose his methods on a team that is composed mainly of players signed in Wenger's era. In fact we have only started 2 new players in all matches to date. After 2 extremely hard matches to start the campaign, we have won the next 3 matches. I belive this is a transition period this season while Emery assesses the squad, integrates 5 new players, possibly more to arrive in January. Fitness and coaching under Emery need time to be implemented and the benefits will be seen as the season progresses. We also have 3 players out whi should return in October/ November. Interestingly we appear to be seeing fewer of the muscular injuries that plagued the team during the second half of the Weger era.

18 Sep 2018 08:41:56
I really hope xhaka does improve under emery RG! But he really has to imo.

18 Sep 2018 10:07:49
Great stats for Xhaka fans RG
But 2 seasons of no top 4 since Xhaka arrived after 20 years of consecutive 4 prior to arrival isn't such good reading for fans of Arsenal.
You can bend it like Beckham and twist and shout it like the Beatles but in the words of strickly judge Craig his Arsenal move so far has been a Disaster Darling.

18 Sep 2018 12:02:40
Xhaka arrived into one of the weakest and most unbalanced Arsenal squad in decades, whilst the top teams installed top managers and spent fortunes. He was still part of a cup winning and Communty shield winning side and the stats don't lie. He has had a a successful career to date.
The problem is that during his time at Arsenal he has been played too deep as a DM, when, as I repeat for those incapable of understanding, that he plays a false number 10 role, linking defence/ defensive midfield to attack. With Torreira playing the DM role he can play slightly further forward and use his passing range and shooting, which was frowned upon by Wenger, who wanted us to pass into the goal.
I suggest watching how Xhaka plays with Torreira in the team and as Emery's improved fitness, coaching and tactics progress.
The interesting thing for such an 'awful' player, is that he has played virtually every game for Wenger, Emery and the Swiss national manager, as well as playing regularly as a very young player for the Swiss U21's and his previous club sides.
He was also given a new long term deal recently and is one of the 5 'Captains' under Emery.

18 Sep 2018 13:13:00
Are the 5 captains anything like the 3 doctors?
Do they simple regenerate every few years and then only when the time is right all come together to fight fearsome battles together :-)
Captain who?

18 Sep 2018 13:30:10
I’ve heard RG that xhaka is good at bee jays.

18 Sep 2018 17:27:15
Rg, your stats are very positive and quite pointless. Whereare your negative stats to equalise your argument, like. Xhaka last season was at fault for more goals than any outfield player, he has the fewest tackles per game than any other midfielder, he has the fewest blocked shots per game than any other midfielder and his foul to tackle ratio is one of the worst in the prem.

18 Sep 2018 18:50:28
And Gouendouzi is nothing like al ninny at all, except the same 70s perm, that's all. I think Gouendouzi is like petit and al ninny is definitely not.
