For me what Dick is trying to do is long term. Wengers ideas on winning football matches was old time. I remember the first prem league game i went to see and could not believe the speed but that was when you had the ball. Now the speed is in the thought and the workrate, when you don't have the ball. Football now is more and more about when you don't have the ball, wenger never bought into that. He was about possession and possession only. Our players became lazy and didn't think as quick under wenger, they didn't have to. Football has moved on and the guy we have in now is current, if anyone is going to change us, i'm convinced he is or no one. The biggest thing will be personell and we are not going to change that over night. I didn't like watching wengers players and style in the end because it was just so outdated and stale. I never got too excited about many recent wenger signings, or players maybe only sanchez. i'm excited about Guendozi, torreira, aubamayang and i hope i'm not deluded, i'm excited about the future. I get angry watching us lose even the last two but the difference is, i can see that someone is actually trying to change the dynamics and that hasn't happened at this club for years. I repeat, it ain't going to change over night.

Agree2 Disagree1

Can you repeat that again:-)

Ok gunner just for you, That again. 😂.

Ah that's better:-) thanks mate :-)

Steve - surely Ozil, Sanchez and Lacazette were exciting signings? Before then we sold sold sold. granted Welbeck, Xhaka et al were not exciting

I agree with you - Guendozi, torreira, aubamayang are exciting

But if Wenger had made the same defensive signings, left us exposed in centrehalf position, played a stupid high line, played from the back against City, signed a league 2 solution to midfield, a 34 year old freebie and an overweight 30 year old Greek centrehalf with a turning circle like Per -> you would have lost your sh@t
Guendozi, torreira, aubamayang and i hope i'm not deluded,

i'm excited about the future also but not convinced Emery is the silver bullet. YET

I was pissed at the way we played against City, the stupid goal against Chelsea but pleased with the chances we created against Chelsea in the second half. For some reason we lost our balls in the second half.

i to can see that someone is actually trying to change the dynamics but question his ability as he’s playing the wrong game for the team. He should have changed more in personnel or adapted his tactics accordingly.

Too early to judge and I am optimistic - I have however seen things I don’t like already along with things I do like. Rose glasses are off and he needs to use the next 6 or 7 games to get the team playing his way. Then is a better time to judge than now - either lauding him or crucifying him. Neither makes sense really. End of season is the judge for m and if we moved forward.

Some of the attacking playing against Chelsea was great - lots of chances created against an average Chelsea team. More chances than normal.

Some shocking defending also. I want to see that change. Thought we would see improvements by now and not every outfield player in the opponents hslf when they counter attack. School boy stuff in my book.

On the signings - not a lot of vision signing a 34 year old right back for free and a 30 year old centrebavk with no EPL experience plus putting centreback on loan with Kos injured.

He really needs to adapt and put Lacca and PEA up front together in a 3 5 2 formation which should leave us less exposed out wide. Or a 4 4 2 formation. Put your boy Matteo and Torreira at the heart of midfield.

I am hopefully not over reacting but sharing a balanced opinion.

Sy, granted ozil was exciting to a point, he always seemed a panic buy to me and lacca while i like him, that summee, he was never my first choice. I was ulta excited by sanchez and i was all the time he was at the club. The rest of your write up i don't quite agree with but i see your points. The first two games were a babtism of fire and i doubt any manager could have done any better however he had played. I agree with gary neville, he should not change his ideas that he has had his own success with and a philosophy he believes in, that can cause even more confusion. We are going to have to take some hits until we have had a few transfer windows to sort personell out that are emerys players and team. This is still wengers team and yes i would have been slagging wenger of for the defending because we have had years of it under wenger and 5 minutes of it under Dick. I also think the signings we made were solid and did Dick buy lichsteiner or mislintat? .

I will say it again sy, things won't change over night. Everything at the club is wengers and that will take a long time to wipe the mantle away.

{Ed0333's Note - I think your going in the right direction. As you say the Wenger legacy will take some time to dissipate.

21 Aug 2018 07:52:48
Sy that’s exactly my point.

For me Ozil was our most exciting signing since Bergkamp, ok he may not have worked out as well as Henry Veira and others but at the time of signing Ozil was a huge maga mage signing.
Spurs had just spent 100 million on various players and were buzzing but when we signed Mesut it put all thier sidings back in the shade.
He we the premier league signing of that summer.

I see and agree with your point about if Arsene had done what Dick has done so far he would be slaughted SY but the difference is there is hope that Dick is finding his way and building towards something but with Arsene after a decade without being competitive and still doing all the same things in the same old unsuccessful way all hope was gone.
None of us know how it's going to work out with Dick but he gives us a chance and a reason to hope that Arsene just couldn't produce any longer.

Emery is going to learn over the next couple of months a lot about the current squad and who has the attitude and commitment to fit in with his ideas and who can't and you can only test these ideas in competitive games.

Gary Neville was right Emery should not just abandon his ideas just because of 2 losses to two top teams right at the start of the season as this gives a sign of weakness to the players too early on.

The players needs to adapt to Emery not the other way around else if a player can't he gets sold.

Wengers ways were obvioulsy not working so we need change and it will take time to dispel Wengers inprint on the side beacsue he was here so long. Emery will need a few transfer windows to sort out such a unbalanced sqaud. Our main issue is that we have too many central AM's and no natural wide players which Wenger never addressed.

You been eating a lot of spicy food lately Steve, something is definitely repeating on your mate :-)
