Unai Emery anyone?

Agree0 Disagree2

21 May 2018 11:58:34
Please God no. It is Arteta though so I'll sleep (relatively) easily.

21 May 2018 12:32:29
The club would be stupid not to consider. But they have been stupid in the past. Serial winner.

21 May 2018 12:48:16
I would honestly prefer arteta.

21 May 2018 13:07:18
Can I ask honestly why prefer Arteta?
Unai far from my preferred option (to be fair, I just woukd have been happy with Ancelotti or Allegri) , but as things stand it's a no brainer to chose someone who has win three european throphies compared to someone who hasn't even manage a single game yet.

21 May 2018 13:13:06
Not too clued up on him if I'm honest. What's wrong with him.

21 May 2018 13:27:16
I know he’s won things, but even Arteta will win trophies in France with that team. I feel like our team does need a younger voice with new techniques, and as much as I don’t want arteta, as I want Allgeri, I feel like it will be interesting to see what happens if he managed.

21 May 2018 13:59:10
DG he won european trophies (3 on the trot) with a less fashionable spanish team. that's why he was chosen for PSG. Our ex manager couldn't manage that. He did nothing wrong at PSG, to lessen his abilities. If he was good enough for PSG, Why should he not for us. He has worked in a similar structure to he one we are adopting, not my first choice but our options are disappearing.

21 May 2018 14:27:06
I wouldn't write off Emery! He's a manager who is used to not getting the financial backing he would like (hence his strong defensive attributes) which may play in our favour. Apart from PSG he took on a Valencia and Sevilla side that were either riddled in debt or just couldn't afford a decent transfer budget. He likes to play with a 4-2-3-1 and often a 4-3-3 which would work well with the current squad and with that comes a lot of high pressing. Something that Arsenal tend to do for the first 10 minutes and then give up doing. Defensively we would see an improvement 100%.

21 May 2018 14:46:19
The situation we are in, we need an over achiever and emery is not. Emery really underachieved at PSG. Remember he lost the league title to Jardims's monaco despite having a far superior squad. PSG's capitulation at Barcelona should not be forgotten. I think Emery is a good coach but not a world class coach. I don't think Emery will be the right coach for Arsenal. I would rather have arteta to be honest.

21 May 2018 14:46:46
In France . forget that, he’s done well in Spain also.

21 May 2018 15:08:46
Before his name was put in the hat nobody wanted Arteta because he wasn't proven? Yet Emery has won 2 french super cups, french league cup and the Europa league 3 times consecutively with Sevilla. I might be mistaken but he also took 2 lower league clubs to promotion within his 1st season is charge? Everybody loses games fashionably but that doesn't make them underachievers. I'm not saying I want him but you can't really fault his credentials when it comes to experience compared to Arteta? I would question his loyalty but apart from that.

21 May 2018 14:22:27
It isn't just France, we're talking of someone who has achieved wining Europa League three years in a row with a minor team and a restricted squad.
I would very much love to see Arteta turn out to be a genius and became successful with Arsenal. It's seems he has the potential, every big fish in football seems to agree with it. But the potential need the experience to be fulfilled, because you going to made some mayor mistakes in the way. It's from mistakes that we learn of course, but sadly we aren't in a position to give room for mistakes right now.
Ed02, do you know something about this called reunion of Emery with the club? . May I ask you as well what is your opinion of him as a coach?

{Ed002's Note - Reunion is the French word for "meeting". Arsenal are today meeting with others who have expressed some level of interest in a position within the new structure. He is a tactically astute coach and he has been learning English - three years ago it was very difficult to understand him in English and then he did not speak a word of French. He would be a better option to Arteta in my view but not a good solution in the long term.}

Glen, agree, if you want to speculate, with no CV, let's get an ex player with no managing experience. If you want to try and improve, get someone with a CV and cut out the guessing. We are not (yet) a mid table team, who needs to gamble with a rookie. Use your heads and put the rookie as no2.

21 May 2018 15:25:25
Punani as usual you are very good at dismissing his acievements. Which are far numerous, including the domestic treble this year and the 3 europa trophies on the trot, than some of the less decorated coaches you keep championing. Missing out on purpose their failings.

21 May 2018 16:22:21
It is also the word for that in Spanish, sorry I misspell sometimes.
Thanks for your view ed.

Dick has an excellent managerial record with a loss rate of less than 25% over 700+ games. That is pretty impressive as is his win rate of 53%.
I'm not pro or anti Arteta, although a limited-experience ex-player would have been Vieira if I had a vote - but anyone slighting Unai Emery for his record is a bit bonkers in my view.
He is at the level we can realistically expect, given our current status in footballing hierarchy (duck and cover) .
