Mavropanos was man of the match today - great performance. Stood his ground, won his battles and cool head

Another quality game from PEA - what edge would he have given us against AM.

No Ozil today - injured, just as he was for the AM game but we had no choice but to risk him

Lovely send off for Wenger today - shame TH14 never made it

Its a shame the big lad has been kept back and some of his peers have been allowed to play, while under performing week after week. he's apparently been impressing for a while. I hope the new coach can have faith and help him with his future.

Let's not go OTT here boys, the United game was played like a friendly and Burnley were on Skeggy beach enjoying the bank holiday weather, he looks a decent prospect but there will be bigger much more competitive tests ahead, starting next Sunday against a Huddersfield who now know a win will keep them up.
Let's not do a Holding and Chambers on him by declaring him the best thing since sliced bread just yet.

Gunner, i'm not going overboard pn him but from what I've seen he has the tools and should have been tried sooner for all sorts of reasons, in my opinion. Regarding Holding, i think he needs a bit of help and hasn't yet for me shown the potential of mavropanas. Chambers career was put into stutter mode by wenger playing him RB and leaving him exposed and roasted . My opinion on him is he will improve under a more structured coach and we will see big improvements in all. Wether they end up as regulars, that will be revealed in the next few seasons. None of them have deserved being made back up to the dross in front of them in the pecking order. Plus i suppose that the lack of midfield protection is another factor for the other pair have found it a babtism of fire at times. All three youngsters may now get the guidance.

All true Steve but with Holding and Chambers they were put on a pedestal by many then when they couldn't quite live up to people's dreams they got hammered for it.
They themselves never said they was all that but some fans did setting them up for an inevitable fall.

I have to say neither Holding or Chambers have ever looked as composed as Mavropeanos did today, he always took a couple of steps back when we lost the ball to survey the situation and then was vocal to get the team in to the right positions, when marking tight he was literally touch tight so as to know where his man was and he was aggressive but not dirty in his challenges both on the floor and in the air.
He looks miles ahead of the other two, if we were to get an older proven centre back to play next to him and show him the ropes a bit more I'd be surprised if he didn't make a very good centre back in no time at all.

Get the defence and midfield playing as an organised disciplined unit and even with what players we have we will be much closer to the top 4/ 5 next season than this, add 3 or 4 quality players to our midfield and defence and we might even make a real fight of being in the top 4 again this time next year.
No disrespect to our greatest ever manager but if Arsene was staying it would all be pretty pointless hoping for things to be different next season especially defensively but right now the world is our lobster and anything and everything is possible once again.

07 May 2018 12:27:22
The world is our lobster? I have never heard of that as a saying.

{Ed007's Note - I think it was Arthur Daley or maybe Del Trotter that first coined the phrase.}

07 May 2018 13:42:16
You are right Ed - rest in peace George Cole ( Arthur Daley ) did come up with that:

"Don't you worry my son, from now on the world is your lobster. "

Said his son heard someone use it in a pub once and he laid £25 pounds for the line and used it in Arthur Dailey two years later - those were the days when TV was TV rather than fly on the wall cheap crap or celebrities answering easy questions for charity in the name of entertainment.

Bring back the big Christmas special shows link a Fools and Horses etc

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

{Ed007's Note - Minder is shown on ITV3 or something and I record it on my TIVO box in the bedroom and watch it at night and it's still quality, especially the older ones with Terry in them. OFAH is growing a bit of a beard as it's never off one of the cable channels but again, it's still funny as hell even after seeing it so often, like Fawlty Towers. There's a lot of classic old shows shown on cable if you look for them.}
