It has been quite incredible the amount of players we've signed who have made really promising starts in an Arsenal shirt only to fade really quickly and really badly after being with us a while.
Chambers Debuchy Elneny Cech Mustafi and this season we can add both Kol and Lacasette to the list of players all who came out of the blocks brilliantly but within 1 or 2 months of being at Arsenal their form and reputation went into free fall.
Even Ozil despite his new super wage contract hasn't been immune to it and Sanchez is the only signing we've made since summer 2013 who's reputation was improved by joining Arsenal.
Over the last 5 seasons we must have signed more than a dozen players and for only one of them to be a success is absolutely awful.
Who ever comes in after Arsene is going to struggle to do worse in the future with new signings than we've done over the last 5 seasons with them.

I believe this is down to the lack of coaching and training methods at the club in the latter half of Wenger's reign. Former players, including Tony Adams have mentioned this in the past. You only have to look at recent departures, such as Oxlade and Debuchy, who have kicked on after leaving the club. I still believe we have some talented players who will benefit from a new manager and different training methods.

Not sure i think Elneny should be in that list G62, as i think he has actually improved, particularly in the 2nd half of this season (although that might be because he has been playing alongside Xhaka so that will make him look world class! ) , and i could argue was becoming first choice DM/ CM before his recent injury (again only versus Xhaka though! ) . Also i think we picked him up for a bargain bucket price of around £5m?, so we should never have had high expectations for him anyway, and would certainly make a decent profit on him now should we ever move him on, unlike a certain Mr Xhaka!

I understand what your saying about having promising starts g62, but I think it’s more than Sanchez who’s reputation improved. With ozil he was great at Madrid so was always going to struggle to become better. Now if reputation and value go hand in hand I reckon most of the younger ones reputation or at least value has increased. And anyway g62 don’t get back in to ruminating over the past mate I thought you had moved forward from that.

True Epping mate but when Elneny first arrived peole were extremely excited about his first 4 or 5 performances then suddenly he stopped shooting from distance and all the other unArsenal like characteristics he showed early on, as far Bargin bucket prices which Elneny certainly was mate but what about Kol on a free transfer and 3 or 4 games in some very excited Gooners were already declaring him the best signing of summer 2017 :-)
You have to be right about the training and coaching RG because although every club has a few signings that don't work out no other club has a 100% failure rate if you exclude Sanchez.
Whether it's on a free like Kol or 38 million like Mustafi and Xhaka or 42 million like Mesut or 50 million like Lacasette none of them are as highly rated now as they were when they signed for Arsenal.
When you consider this plus our league position plus so many terrible performances from our players it does make you realise just how necessary change is needed at the club.

Totally Sanogo mate it doesn't really matter now other than the fact that maybe some of these players reputations and standing in world football could possibly be turned around under a new coach.
I was reading an article by Perry Groves on Kol and how he thought he was the flop of the season and that's what lead to me starting the thread mate rather than simply covering old ground yet again:-)
As for Mesut mate he arrived a Superstar who no one could believe we'd got at the time but his options before signing a new deal with us were extremely limited elsewhere.
Let's hope the new coach reminds us and the whole footballing world of just how brilliant Mesut Ozil really is and the rest aren't any where near as poor as they have looked so far in our shirt.

Was there an article stating that Wenger thought Kol was overweight and therefore that's why he isn't being played? There was much excitement on Kols signing i agree, but perhaps it comes as a warning that just because a player looks good in a (weaker? ) league, doesn't mean they will be able to step up to play consistently in the PL. As for Elneny (and the the team) not shooting, i definitely think that's coached out of them currently.

I'm not sure about looking good in a weaker league Epping but he looked half tidy in the premier league initially mate, overweight or not :-) .
I agree just because someone looks good at another club let alone in another league it doesn't mean they are right for you but surely that's where professional judgement comes in and as with in all walks of life a persons ability to choose which peole they employ is reflected in the performance of those people when it comes to carrying out the job they are asked to do.
Employ 10 people and 7/ 8 work out well while 2 or 3 simply don't work out and your doing OK, employ 15 and only one lives up to thier CV and it's definitely time to replace the man doing the recruiting or the man whose training the new recruits and if it just happens the same man is filling both roles of recruiter and trainer then maybe just maybe the new employees aren't quite as bad as they appear to be but have just been trained really poorly and deserve another chance.
Maybe under a new coach Calum Chambers will win back his England place Xhaka become an asset and Mesut be talked of in the same breathe as other top quality players again.

Has kol actually done badly. I haven't seen much wrong with him. Just hardly gets game time. He could be one to flourish next season.

02 May 2018 17:24:32
To be 16 I'm no longer sure we should be looking to ditch anyone immediately without then at least having until January under the next coach.
My personal view on Mustafi and Xhaka is I'd swap the pair for Rob Green as our 20th back up keeper but maybe with some decent coaching and motivating I could be wrong about them, I'm not convinced but I'm open to the possibility of being convinced by some who I'd previously given up on.

02 May 2018 18:06:44
Was Kol a wenger signing or mislintat. He seems to stick his own in ie xhaka through thin and thin. He didn't even say that "greek lads" name when we signed him and as good as he looks, the other young lads he signed have been given far more chances.

02 May 2018 19:29:53
Kol came in the summer before mislinstat I believe so you would think not. But seriously guys (hmm steve 😁) just let it go he’s gone 👍🏻.

02 May 2018 20:12:58
Sano, it was just an observation. I think gunner has a point and his point is, some players might now actually progess and perform to their abilities. Its a fact players have not over performed under wenger recently but that may or mey not change with the new man.

02 May 2018 20:28:57
The thread isn't Arsene so much as the players he's leaving behind, are they that bad or has his methods just made them look awful.
Is there a case for giving them all a chance under the new manager to find out?

02 May 2018 20:51:53
Gunner, there are some who may benifit from the change, others may just not be good enough. It will depend how quickly the new mesiah can fathom that.

02 May 2018 21:37:15
So basically we’re trying to ascertain how rubbish Wenger actually was or its the players that are rubbish who Wenger may have or may have not bought! I understand the players that are left behind but it seems a little backwards in coming forwards to me.

02 May 2018 21:42:05
Sano, wenger or not, the future will tell us if the players can progress underxa different coach.
