Stoner,
Fantastic post earlier. Respect.

But, I guess it depends how you look at it. Has Mourinho done a good job at Utd since taking over?

I would say he has done a very good job, depending how you look at it.

Since SAF left, Moyes and LVG have been in charge. Moyes was a disaster, lasted a few months. Wring man, wrong job.

LVG took over, based on the fact he managed Ajax, Barca, Bayern and the Dutch National side, he would appear the perfect fit.

Despite winning FA Cup, his league position, just like their team performances, were poor.

Mourinho took over, finished 5th in his first season, won League Cup and Europa League, thus qualifying for Champs League.

This season, they have 4 points less than what they finished with last season, with 8 games to go, which equates to a possible 20 point swing from last season, and automatic qualification into CL.

Now, he has spent huge amounts, sold players, bought new players in, implemented his own style of play, which let's face it, is as about as entertaining as watching mould grow on your bathroom ceiling, but he has, in my opinion, been a success, thus far.

Two trophies, 3 if you count the Community shield, and a guarantee of top 4, which they have'nt managed since Fergie left, surely counts as a successful tenure?

Good post Dags mate and a very valid point of view.
2 trophies season 1
Possibly another one this season still and on course for 80 plus points in year two.
Looking purely on stats it's a good return on year 2 after taking over an extremely misfiring utd.
But that's the problem with stats they can be a very convenient method of masking the true picture.

Utd are awful to watch Pogba arrived a 100 million Superstar who will almost certainly have it on his toes this summer desperate to revive his career and former standing before he arrived, Luke Shaw? What's going on there?
Jose himself sounds more and more bizarre with every passing media interview or press conference which behind the scenes won't be impressing his bosses.
Football Stats really do so often provide a convenient diversion from reality and the reality is its anyone's guess if untied will stick or twist with Jose this summer.

Agree G62,
I honestly believe that '12' minute interview was Mourinho doing what Mourinho does best, deflecting media and fan attention from their CL exit, and getting everybody to talk about him instead.

The man is a master of deflection.

Good post dags. What do you make of the Luke Shaw situation?

Dags please don’t count charity shields.

Mourinho is an awesome manger, you only have to look at his trophy haul. He is paving the path to try and close in on Man City. To do so, he needs to jettison players that are simply not good enough or sufficiently motivated to buy into brand Mourinho. He also clearly wants the board to invest in more top talent.
When Wenger departs, in an ideal world Mourinho and Guardiola would top my list of replacement.

Thanks Dags,

Whilst I do accept he won two trophies and the reality is stats do show two trophies, Southampton were robbed of a perfectly good goal and pretty much outplayed United the whole game and the young guys at Ajax just never turned up.

It’s also widely accepted the easiest ever start to a season allowed them to gain points and momentum which has clearly helped. When we played them a win would have put us 1 point ahead of them but Mourinho did his usual and we duly fell over ourselves to hand it to them on a plate. They’ve since beaten Chelsea and Liverpool so whilst no mugs they are not what you’d take to be a United side.

I think the Chelsea exit was the beginning of his down fall, he’s never been the same and only desperation on Uniteds side, in my opinion, saw him get that job.

I listed 23 players brought in since Fergie left and whilst they were not all there when Mourinho arrived he’s added another £300 million pounds worth, including 2 record signings.

You look at what Pep has done and it’s literally chalk and cheese, where would United be under Mourinho without De Gea, probably down with us.

They don’t really even look like a team, let alone a United team and in honestly any half decent manager could have improved on the hapless Moyes and LVG having spent the money he has.

With his reputation and winning record they should be doing so so much better but I really don’t think he has that special touch anymore, much like Wenger.

I honestly believe he’s not deflecting from his team but from himself.

One Thing is for Sure he can not and should not ever be Arsenal manager ever.
Steve Mclaren or Arsene Wenger? Tough one
Tim Sherwood or Arsene Wenger? Another tough one
But Jose Mourinho or Arsene Wenger? It's Arsene every time for me.

I want change desperately but not at the cost of Mourinho replacing Arsene that would be going to far.
Sacking Arsene would not be an insult or disrespectful after all he's done and been for the club it would just be a sad but necessary only course of action left open to the club given Arsenes refusal to do the right thing for the club himself.
But replacing him with the man who has gone out of his way to belittle him for years would be the ultimate insult niether Arsene or Arsenal deserve.
Relegation before Mourinho for me.

Fair reply Stoner.

Considering they are the richest club in the world and keep making record signings, you'd expect entertainment at least. 2nd place is still the best of the rest, though, he's certainly steadied their demise and i imagine the next manager at OT might find himself in a pretty sweet position, as long as mou doesn't stay beyond the end of next season and drive that squad away.
