In reality we stand little chance of finishing top 4, so we must throw every effort behind the two cup competitions we are in.
Until Wenger wakes up and realises that we need a pair of proper DM's, say Lamina and Nzonzi, we will not compete for the title. Yes, we can win a one off match, hence the cup wins, but success over 38 matces requires the ability to win points idifficult matches, by having defensive stability. The last window typified Wenger, whilst all knew we needed a CB to replace the mysteriously sold Gabriel and a DM, we signed a forward and another attacking midfield player. The nonsense Wenger spouted that we couldn't afford Evans was embarrassing. The truth is that he wouldn't sanction paying WBA £25m ish for the player, togther with the wages, yet he agrees to pay Ozil £350,000 a week!

we couldn't afford him after the business that we had done - that will include tying down Ozil, the wages for Auba and Mkhi, and I would assume taking into account the new deals for Wilshere and Ramsey that are on the table. It has been said on here a few times that Kroenke expects the club to run within the resources it generates, so taking on Laca and Kolisinac at the beginning of the season along with those mentioned signing on, we probably couldn't 'afford' him. Whether that is a poor show or not is a different debate altogether.

Next time I bump into the Warner brothers in Stringfellows I'll ask them can they make cast away 2, I know tom hanks played a blinder in the first film but R. G. would be just as good for the next. All you have to do us for R. G. to jump in his private aeroplane and tell him spurs give Arsenal the runaround yet again and then R. G. suddenly disappears on a beach with a bottle of moet and a signed spurs football for company.

What do you think he calls the football Raver? 😜.

Skywalker, the big IF we couldn't afford anyone and IF that is true. Then its down to the fact we haven't had CL football. We have had two basically break even windws now and If that is the case, wenger should be sacked because CL football is not coming next year either the way we are performing.

Wether we can afford top players or not can we attract them?
I'm totally shocked we got PEA and I was totally blown away extremely happily surprised Mesut Ozil joined us especially given how high his reputation in the game was at that time, so there are pleasant surprises but many many more top players have decided to give a move to Arsenal a swerve because their ambitions run a little higher than just participation in the premier league and champions league.
I personally think our reputation as a club is at an all time low when it comes to desire for greatness.
No one takes us seriously on the ambition front anymore.

Dont forget Skywalker to help balance that outlay out we have sold Giroud and Walcott both on highish wages and also dropped sanchez wages and aswell as selling Le coq. So I would think the losing sanchez wages accounts for Mikh or Aubu and Walcott and/ or Giroud covers for the other. Ozil wages over 3 and half years is then covered by the transfer money in for Giroud and Walcott. so we are most likely in balance on that front.

Of course we can afford players. The decision to buy is left to Wenger and it is his belief that football clubs should be run as profitable businesses. The sole criticism of Kroenke is that he doesn't interfere and he allows Wenger a free hand.
As one of the most profitable clubs in the world, with net spends of virtually nothing over the last two windows, does anyone seriously believe we couldn't afford Evans, even at a reported £27million? Wenger was playing with words, as the truth is probably that Wenger wouldn't sanction £27 million on a player that can be bought for £3m in the summer if WBA are relegated and they are currently bottom. It would mean an overspend of £24 million for 3 months! What bothers me more is that the CB's have no DM's to protect them and Wenger doesn't look like signing any!

The truth is we couldn't afford not to buy a holding mid and a couple of defenders. And we didn't.

The truth is Wenger bought in a striker and an offensive midfield player, whilst sales made it a virtual zero spend.
Wenger seems oblivious to the fact we need a couple of keepers, then again he kept faith in Almunia for way too long.

In terms of CB's he sold Gabriel for a low fee and brought back Chambers, who is average at best. He sold our one DM, Coquelin, who wasn't good enough and is already being linked with Max Myer, another diminutive ball playing midfield player. Considering Wenger's teams in his first decade contained proper defenders and DM's, it simply baffles me as to why he deviated to technical players, that can't defend.

Still no mention of spurs Gulliver.
