Anyone else find it strange that we renewed Abou Diaby’d contract for so many years, but Jack is still waiting on a deal? Disagree if you will whether he should get one, I’m just saying it’s strange.

Agree0 Disagree0

A new 5 year deal would cost the club around £37.5m in wages for a player that only played 72 matches over the last 5 years.
I don't believe he will recover the level he reached before his inuries and it is probably best to allow him to move on.
We have youngsters such as Nelson coming through whi can take his place.

You keep mentioning the young players we have RG but do you remember the 2007 league cup final v Chelsea and all the hype about our young team that day and how bright our future was going to be with them?
Where are they all now 10 years later? Which of them are premier league regulars? Which ones went on to big things else where? Fab
We still have and still waiting for Theo but that's about it to my knowledge.
I'm all in favour of bringing on our own young players but only if they proven capable of being able to deliver in the premier league on a regular basis should we rely on them.
Chelsea have had loads and loads of hot prospects who never come good but some how Chelsea keep winning and competing for titles
We can't go back to the " he's one of our own, Arsenal through and through days all over again.
We need to scout and buy well if we are ever to get back among the big time and any home grown players would be a very nice bonus but certainly should not be the blueprint.

I'm curious how you got to that figure RG?

By giving an injury prone player a 5 year contract and a nice little wage rise of £55 thousand a week Sanogo mate.

Makes perfect sense. 😂😂😂.

Glad he's not my accountant stoner 😂.

G62 - I don't have any fixation with younger players, but if one first team player comes through it saves the club a fortune and we have to top our squad up with young players, who generally are also homegrown. There is a train of thought that acadamies are not cost effective and one club I recall closing their academy as it was expensive to run, with little return. In Chelseas's case their young players have made them a fortune in loan fees and sales, Indeed, Fabregas who joined us when he was 15, played in the 2007 final you mentioned at 20 years of age.
In the current squad we have players that started playing first team football at a young age with the club and have been a success: Bellerin, Iwobi, Wilshere, Ramsey, Walcott and Coquelin to name a few.
The trouble nowadays is that the PL is so physical that teenage players struggle as a result and often players are unable to perform at a high level until they are in their early 20's.

Sanogo - Wilshere is currently on £90,000 a week and I assumed he would be pushing for a 5 year deal on increased wages as he becomes a free agent at the end of the season and clubs tend to pay increased wages to players that are signed without a transfer fee. As an example Kolasinac is reportedly on £150,000 a week as we din't pay a transfer fee to his club. Imagine a team such as Everton want to sign Wilshere, they get him on a free so he can demand higher wages.

So you assumed! So in your opinion if he were to pen a new contract with the club it would in the region of 150k a week. And you based your assumption on kolasinac as we didn't pay a transfer fee to shalke! Thanks for clearing that up. Here's me thinking your just plucking numbers from the air.

Between Fab to Belerin is a 10 year gap RG mate Ramsey and Theo were both bought young for big money for there age and still to materialise as top players Jack Le Coq aren't regulars for us or in high demand elsewhere and Iwobi looks out of his depth currently, add to this that in combination with the rest of the squad they have never ever challenged for a title it's not a glowing reference for our home grown or young buys.
If we continue to repeat what hasn't worked for years we are likely to continue to be non competive.
It's just the way forward mate.
Better scouting along with higher standards and expectations before we dish out lifetime financial securing contracts has to be better than what we've been doing for some time.

Sanago, as usual you totally misread my comment. I didn't compare Wilshere to Kolasinac, I just used it as a comparison to show that free players often get higher wages than one would expect. Of course it's a guesstimate as nobody knows what deal he wants or will get.

28 Nov 2017 21:43:45
So then why pluck a figure of 37mill. And state it as some educated guess. Don't deflect and change goal posts after another crazy comment.

I can't believe I read that whole thread!
