Am I missing something? How can letting Sanchez Ox and Ozil among others only having one year left be " ideal "? Surely a player who can agree to join say C£ty in January can't be giving 100 % at a vital part of the season . Put this alongside as I understand players get sold for less in the last year of their contract because the buyers know we could lose them for free! In theory those 3 players on 4 year deals could command £180 mill (70 + 70 + 40 ) but could go for free or less than £100 mill during last year! Genuinely don't care about the money just Mr Wenger don't take the piss out of us and tell us it's "ideal "! It's b/ s and trying to cover up our inability to sort out contracts earlier. PS I am for Wenger just not on this nonsense COYG.

I beieve Wenger meant this from a playing point of view, not financially, although wages must be considered and 5 year delays for Sanchez could cost approx £100m, Ozil say £80m and Ox £40m. Eye-watering amounts, However, these players will either extend their deals this summer or move on. Except Ozil who may run his deal down and be in a strong position to dictate high terms as a free agent,

It's all utter clap trap, they must think we are morons.

It suits the players for sure running down their contracts as as free agents they can demand higher wages then and a signing on bonus. Wenger has a point about performance players in the final year of their contract should play if anything as best they can as they are in the shop window for the next deal. Perhaps when some players have comfortable longer 5/ 6 year contracts they can get complacent a little.

Financially for the club however it is nothing but a disaster with the players holding the club to ransom with increased wage demands to sign another contract. At the end of the day you can't force a player to sign a new contract if Sanchez wants to leave he will and run down his contract simple.

I think ozil will sign a new deal not sure on ox or sanchez.

Ryan it's not about forcing, It's about offering and showing a future. Players leave us because we offer no ambition.

31 Jul 2017 15:35:14
Steve R yeah ambition for sure but players and their agents have to be realistic with wage demands we can't be sure if it is true why is Sanchez demanding close to 400k per week to stay when he knows we can't afford such demands and only players like like Messi ad Ronaldo can really demand that.

Sure the club has to show ambition by buying top players to prove to the existing players the club means business but you can't create the attractivness of Arsenal to get such players until you win the league and or champs league (Or at least be very close to winning it) and can't do that that until the current level of players step up and perform to their best ability every single game so that we can finally win the league. The players have to look at their own ambition first and want to do everything thing they can to win with Arsenal rather than take an easy option and jump ship to a cosy life and win easy medals to a team like PSG, Munich, Barca/ Madrid that are more or less nailed on to win the league every season.

There is only so many top class players that will actually make the 1st team much better than it is and we are trying to compete for these players still against teams that have a bottomless pit of money.

31 Jul 2017 16:17:08
Ryan money is only part of it, we are having to offer money in place of ambition and some players can't be bought and some can. The players who usually can don't win you league titles. We have a few happy chapped on big money who are happy with life at cosy arsenal.

Happy chappies in above post.

Maybe it means they got to try harder to impress a prospective new club,

also.
maybe it will pressure them to sign a new contract? as i'm unsure how they would fare if they got a serious injury in their last year?
Who would buy them then?
what would their insurance cover?

Just a thought?
Could the edds add to this?
