Our proactive stance on signing the new left wing back will cost us an extra 2m estimate plus payroll taxes compared to our normal end of Window signing habits.

Do we plan to sign late due to the above ??

Expensive summer if we keep signing players this early ( first 2 weeks of July ) .

I am assuming we officially sign him 1st July

Financially expensive if you sign players early but for years it's proved at the cost of on field success that we've saved the penny's and lost out of any type of challenge.
Why do Arsenal fans worry so much about the financial side of the game? Gooners or accountants that is the question!

Wenger can't win lol. He's wrong signing people late and wrong signing them early? :-S

I thought the player would be paid by his existing club until his contact expiry date and then by his new club from the following day when his new contract kicks in?

He can win in my book Sanago mate, if he signs players asap to enable us to get our business done and dusted early plus give the new players a full preseason to bed in as well as humanly possible before the season starts I will see that as a very positive step forward, and if it costs us £10 million in extra wages I will be delighted even more because it will show Arsene and the club are finally putting football ahead of finance for once which can only be a good thing for football fans but I do accept it would be a blow for those fans who follow the ft index more closely than the premier league table.

I believe the window officially opens on 1st July, so we are unable to register the player until then and hence his county presumably starts on 1st July. With players wages being so high, huge savings can be made by signing players late in the window. However, deals take time for various reasons and the early deals are often the result of negotiations that have been in progress for some time, such as the signing we have already made. On a differenr note, I would love us to sign Diego Costs, as assuming Sanchez leaves, he can score the goals we would lose. Whether Chelsea would sell to us is another issue. I would also like to see us break the bank to sign Gareth Bale, if he would sign for us. The combination of these two players would plug the gap left by the departure of Sanchez and Ozil.

Agree with G62: he definitely can win and the answer is only to get 'em in early for so many reasons, all of them practical - "bedding" them in (they are humans and need to find somewhere to live, for example, they may have family to consider) , getting them involved in pre-season, tactical training etc and also as the later in the window the more likely the price goes up (it's a seller market! ) unless your target is not really a valuable commodity in which case, why buy them - so the "extra" wages SY talks about are potentially negated.
I was (and continue to be) a firm "Wenger Out" man, but it's based on reality (in my view) , not having a go at Wenger for any thing he does! It's little wonder the guy ignores the protests against him, if this kind of criticism gets levelled against him!

Also Max it's a real gamble to let the players you don't really want to keep go before you buy a replacement so you have to pay their wages until you sell them anyway.
If we signed one quality player we could probably off load two under achievers and possibly even save money on wages while doing so.
This waiting till deadline day to save wages mentality is short sighted and most probably less cost effective long term too, but it's been Arsenals or should I say Arsene philosophy more often than not in the past.
