Hey guys

Tough break for xhaka agenst the swans. Gifting them a goal, Sig still did well to finish and Cech did not put much effort into the save. The red card was a bad challenge and a bit harsh, but still red.

Do you guys seem him coming straight back into the team with Coqu back?
I still think he is a great player, I think at 24 he must just mature a bit.

Viera got 8 red cards - two in two matches ( Sunderland and Liverpool at the start of 00/ 01 season) . He worked out ok for us.

Viera took plenty yellows for us exactly like Granit did yesterday because he took one for the team. Cannot work out how it's a red as plenty defenders in between him and gosl plus a long way out. Guess that's life
- rough with the smooth.

Think the young man needs time to adapt but will work out just fine. Ashley Cole was a little rash in tackles and a red card sorted him out. Will be interesting to see how he reacts to the card and Wenger.

Think Coq will return.

There is nothing to worry about IMO, and no reason for punishing him. He just seemed a bit off yesterday, that happens. But I think Coquelin is still a bit above him at the moment. Being established helps, and Coquelin learned the hard way. He's stronger now. But I can see Granit become strong too.

I think it's brilliant we have Le Coq ready willing and more than able to step in and reclaim his place which can only be a good thing for the team and Xhaka long term because he will learn from his mistakes better if it costs him his place for a while.
Red or not a Red is debatable but as far as referring decisions go so far we've had a lot more go for us than against us to date this season, which is excellent news because every team that wins anything needs the rub of the green along the way.

The good thing is that we have Coquelin and Elneny who can replace Xhaka whilst he is out. I would like to see Gibbs given a chance ahead of Monreal, whose lack of pace is evident.

The new rules that were introduced this season say it was a red card.

Stupid red card.

16 Oct 2016 12:07:07
What are the new rules?

16 Oct 2016 12:13:53
Deliberate fowl where you don't attempt to go for the ball.

malaga - that sentence is under the section:

denying a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity

I can't see the new rule and have to think there would be far far more reds if that was the new rule.

Sounds like an excellent rule change to me all we need is for referees to be consistent with it, if you kick someone with no intention of playing the ball you should walk imo.

I think it was a definite red, irrespective of where it was on pitch.

He made no attempt to win the ball, but to take the man down.

Xhaka probably expected a yellow, but the challenge was worthy of a red.

Hope the rules are applied for all because this can only help footballing sides - wish they brought it in years ago. Would have stopped Reyes getting bullied and Neville kicking lumps out of Overmars.

Everyday pundits are applauding 'tactical' or 'professional' fouls. Well, they're either applauding them or saying a player should have committed one to 'take one for the team'.

Football is a contact sport and it is becoming ridiculously softer every day. Yes not attempting to get the ball can be dangerous and someone may even get hurt god forbid, but automatic red cards? I'd guess more serious injuries are caused by high arms when jumping for headers as opposed to deliberate trip-ups and they are usually only worthy of a yellow. The great England teams of the past would struggle with this as I thought tough tackling and no way passed by any means was part of the English DNA - or however Wilshere put it that time.
