Decent result for your boys today Dags mate, long gone are the days of the 5 and 10 wins for England against smaller nations.
Did you go to the game mate?

Agree0 Disagree1

Hi G62,
I didn't go, but very proud of the boys today.

Was very much a damage limitation game, after our drubbing against Scotland.

Andrew Hogg (proper Maltese name lol) had an absolute blinder in goal :-)

Leicester are the role model for the Southamptons and Sunderlands of the premier league and now countries like Malta Cyprus have Iceland as their inspiration to make it to a finals at some stage mate Euro's 2020?

08 Oct 2016 21:25:00
Would love to agree mate, but in honesty, we are totally pants.

Many years ago we use to be on a par with Greece, Cyprus etc, but they have improved big time, whilst we have stagnated.

On a more positive note, we can only get better :-)

08 Oct 2016 22:27:16
But if Greece who you were once on par with can win the Euros then it has to be possible for you to take part mate, 4 years ago Iceland to be at Euro 2016 was impossible!

08 Oct 2016 23:07:50
I agree mate.

But, we are a very small island, one tenth the population of Greece, half the population of Cyprus, although very comparable to Iceland.

I think we need a total revamp and a high calibre coach.

Are you watching Arsene? :-)

09 Oct 2016 07:54:33
I'm not certain why I yet again wasted 90 minutes of my life watching England, they are utter pants.

Why that fat clown was once again shoe horned into the team is beyond me, the best part of the game was when the commentator said will Rooney fill the same role against Slovenia, I thought yet he probably will, a bloody enormous one full of chips.

09 Oct 2016 08:13:28
Something tells me Red dog is not a fan of Rooney.

I might be wrong though :-)

09 Oct 2016 08:51:20
That's England for you Red we've been picking names for years, Lampard and Gerrard never worked but we persistently stuck with that partnership and persistently failed with it, now it's Rooney who may be the all time leading goal scorer but he's only done it by scoring in qualification and friendly games not on the big stage.
And the trend looks set to continue with the next generation of overated underperformers.
If you keep doing the same things you get the same results, France left Cantona and Ginola out and won the world cup and Euros consecutively can you imagine that England would have done the same thing?

09 Oct 2016 09:37:54
England are farcical gents, Southgate talks of putting a performance on for the fans as if we're playing some top side, no disrespect Dags, but it was Malta. We really don't have the players nor are we able to find a manager to get anything from them.

We are horrendous as is Rooney, who make no mistake for a period was immense, that period was a long time ago.

The only good thing about Rooney is the fact he is he's a scouser, still stealing £250,000 a week from the Mancs.

09 Oct 2016 10:27:42
We've not been competitive for over 20 years and since Sven came along we've had a celebrity rather than a work culture within the England set up.
If we picked a team from the football league we most probably wouldn't do any better in finals but we'd once again see players who saw playing for the country as the highlight of their career apposed to a right.

09 Oct 2016 11:09:08
No offence taken Red.

We are pants 😁.

09 Oct 2016 12:05:52
The Ox was talking the other day and saying how being dropped from the England squad was a kick up the butt, almost saying he took it for granted that having made the squad he would just stay in it.

I think you've said it before 62, they get in a comfort zone and are happy to stay there. Hopefully Walcott has dragged himself out of that on a permanent basis.

Hard work pays off and to many don't seem up for that.

im so confused by the rooney becoming a midfielder issue! i can't remember many other strikers becoming midfielders? it usualy goes the other way when players lose their legs doesn't it? because midfield requires covering more ground. but he still seems to be seen as great so whack him in midfield so he's on the pitch keeping out a player who may be slightly infirior technically. but knows the possition a hell of a lot better and is much more effective! i can't remember rooney ever having a good game in midfield!

09 Oct 2016 12:32:07
The Iceland manager summed it up perfectly when talking to his players before facing England in the Euros " you are playing against the most over rated team in international football"
That should be put on a huge poster and hung in the England dressing room and not be removed until the players can show its no longer the case and if any player who reads it isn't bothered by it they shouldn't be in that changing room in the first place.

I really do not get the Rooney bashing?!
This lad turns up to every international game, friendly, qualifier, never misses, always has his head high, always talks of pride playing for this country, even when the press are slating him, the fans are booing him, commentators and ex professionals are slamming him, he walks out with a proud head on, he does not pick him self, does not select the squad, he could like other players have just say no, do you know what its not worth it, yet he does EVERYTIME. here is a guy who wants to play for england, Proud, is our all time leading scorer (and don't give me that its only against poor opposition or qualifiers in that case why has no none else done it) where was kane, sturradge, Vardy, Lallana's goals at the euros? how did they do against Iceland? slovenia?
we talk about comfort zone, how is it comfortable for Rooney, his family and children have to listen to all this crap consistently said chanted and written about him when all he has done is turn up when selected to play for his country?!
While I do not agree with him playing in midfield ( I still think he should play upfront) to boo someone who has delivered so much for england is beyond me.
can you imagine, Hurst, Charlton, Liniker, sheerer being bood back then?

A bit off subject but way back in late October 1966 as a a fresh faced galley boy on The Lancastrian Prince I stepped ashore in Valletta harbour. Loved the Island ever since so if you live there Dags you're a lucky man.
Back on subject at least Rooney has been dropped for tomorrow, beginning of the end for him I think.
