Anyone seen Lucas Perez play? . It's on sky that we are about sign him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Had never seen him play until I moved out to Spain last year and met a good friend who is a Deportivo fan. Watched a fair few games with him and was quite impressed with Lucas Perez, seems to have good technical ability and is a lot faster than Giroud! Only scored 17 goals last season so something to be said for that but never know what would happen if you popped him in a team with Ozil, Sanchez etc (Deportivo aren't the greatest side) . Would like to see him in an Arsenal shirt think it would be a good signing to be honest and believe that he could cope well in the PL.

Ok player but the same as every season he is not the answer for Arsenal, just a bargain basement signing.

So was Henry, not much fanfare in that signing either. The rest is history.

If we are going down the bargain bucket route (as usual) with Perez we should at least also try and get Julian Draxler (or someone of his ability) to make up for the lack of cash (and ambition? ) we are spending for our striker. Add van Dijk, or if we have to go for another bargain bucket but with premiership experience CD, Scott Dann (much better than Evans or Jones IMO) and I would be mildly contented.

You can keep on dreaming with all these big names its just not going to happen be realistic, perez looks like a decent shout.

Henry was 22 when he signed and had that "potential" which was worth the risk, Perez is nearly 28, in his best season he scored 17 goals in La Liga. He is not even close to the caliber of striker that you need to kick on. What is the point of disagreeing, out of blind loyalty clinging on to the hope that he might be another hidden gem?

From what I can gather (reading online and very, very. very limited time watching the odd La Liga game) Perez is ok, nothing to write home about.
One good season, did well for a average side, scored a few goals in big games but doesn't have a great career path either, a few small Spanish teams coupled with some time in Russia.
He's at that peak age though and considering he did bag a decent goals and assists tally, maybe he's a late bloomer, the Spanish Ian Wright (one can hope) .
He played most of his career thus far as an attacking mid, as far was I'm aware, and it's only the last few seasons he's played as a striker.
But, as I said, I don't really know much about this lad other than what I've read and a rare watched match

To me, he's worth a gamble if we're paying the relatively small fee's quoted (though latest report is we're asking to pay his fee in two instalments) but he's certainly not the top drawer player we've been craving, but may be the best of what's available in the range we're willing to pay.

This (apparent) move, however screams of 'we screwed up and are now manically grasping for a striker'

I wouldn't put too much credence to these stories we are being linked to every average player going. We won't sign dross. " We only sign players who will improve the team" if wenger does sign a duffer he will be toast with the fans.

Where was vardy before his one great season last season, not saying this guys going to be top drawer but for 17 mill if he can chip in on the wing maybe with an extra 10 -15 goals, that's money well spent in my book.

25 Aug 2016 18:50:38
Some of you lot make me want to bang my head against the wall repeatedly until I start to think like you. Firstly he isn't a bad player at all. Granted not as good as the world class names we went for. Draxler hiquain morata Lacazette. We tried to get them but failed. Now we've gone for someone ed002 said we was considering long ago. Cut the guys some slack before writing him off before he has even signed.

TOT66 - None of the top strikers are available and Perez may score more goals in a side with players such as Ozil, Cazorla, etc, supplying chances. Wenger has unearthed some awesome bargain signings; Koscielny, Giroud, Bellerin, etc. All cheap signings for decent players.

Perez is pretty good and not bargain basement, he scored 19 goals last year and 11 assists for playing in an average side. He is also doesn't have any niggling injuries to worry about (at this stage) . Griezmann got 32 club goals and 7 assists last year, although he had the opportunity to score more in the Champions league. If it is based on performance opportunities and goals scored/ assisted they are only one statistic apart.

Overall I would prefer Griezmann, although he is out of our price range in terms of wages and transfer fee. I would be happy with Perez and Mustafi, also keeping Debuchy would be a good idea if possible.

{Ed041's Note - he average.

With all due respect RG, OG has been our only real striker and with our midfield, if you can't bag goals, you are better off doing something else.

"Top" strikers are available - you just have to pay the price. That's the point, we never pay them. Shoot back to the RvP saga - we wouldn't give him additional wages or show him the ambition he wanted so he went off to a club who did. End of.
