I need some help. Wenger saw my post about my upcoming 60th birthday. He wants to give me a present and said he has £85M to spend. These are the options he has given me
- Lacazette and up to 40M on a CB
- Mahrez and up to 40M on a CB
- Mahrez and Lacazette
- or Griezmann.
Seeing as I think a birthday present should be something you want but would not normally buy, I am inclined towards the last option.
What do you guys think?

- Mahrez and Lacazette.

Marez lacazette and mustfi we can afford all 3.

Mahrez maybe an option if reports yesterday are to be taken with any credibility.

i did watch the match and he seemed uninterested, not sure if we should be going for him now.

i get he is unhappy if at all he is, and he wants a move, but be professional about it and play the game and let the off field issues happen.

the owners may not want to sell, what will he do damage their entire season?

imagine we sign mahrez, has a brilliant one season, and Barcelona come knocking with their DNA crap, is he going to throw his toys out of the pram again?

I think he has supreme technical ability, in a team like arsenal he would thrive with the space with defenders worrying about sanchez, ozil, and so on.

My reasoning for Griezmann is simple. Assuming he has an 85M pound buyout and based upon the current market, that strikes me as cheap. We paid 42M for Ozil 3 years ago and with the TV money I think 85M now is similar to 45M back then. We need a striker and Griezmann can play that role. He works well with Giroud but would work well without him.
We also need a world class player and he is that. He is in the same league as Messi, Neymar, Suarez, Ronaldo, Bale and Lewandoski (imo) and of them he is the only one who is vaguely affordable - assuming the buyout clause is accurate.
It would be a gamble to throw all our transfer money at him alone as we need reinforcing at the back. But we also need a real boost in goals and Messi or Suraez would give us that to such an extent that our back line weaknesses could be compensated for. Griezmann is currently close to Messi and Suarez, is only 25 and could probably get better.
However, having said all that, I think the real reason we will not get Griezmann is not the 85M, it is because I think the buyout clause is probably not even true. If it were true then why have none of Man U, Man C, Chelsea, Juventus, Bayern, RM and even Barcelona tried to get him?

So, in light of that I would opt for Mahrez and Lacazette and hope our backline can hold up as is.

Of course, realistically, we probably are going to get no-one.

i think the eds have already stated to ignore buyout clauses, spain has a different legal system to UK and hence the clause cannot be activated by an english club but only by Iberian clubs, that was my understanding of it.

also the player has to want the move even if the clause is activated.

also since when was 85 mill cheap? i think people are getting carried away with transfer fees and feel its normal to spend that money.

in my opinion i think its appaling, this is exactly what is wrong with the world, turn a blind eye towards extortionate amounts being spent on very rich human beings and then wonder why over 95% of the global population are earning below 45k pounds, with majority in abject poverty.

fyi this is not an attack at your assesment just my personal opinion that no one is really worth that amount of money.

Lakerville, I totally agree with what you are saying. I just think Griezmann will be twice the player Lacazette is and is a better player than Pogba. But 85M for anyone is disgusting and their salaries are immoral. I do agree with that.
For that matter where has all the discussion and moral outrage gone about Messi trying the cheat the Spanish taxpayer of 4M Euros? I mean, the guy is filthy rich and yet he feels the need to steal 4M more. And to say he did not know what he was signing or that he was trusting his dad - not only is that a pathetic piece of blame shifting, would we accept that from someone in another walk of life. If a politician, lawyer, accountant or even bricklayer tried that line of defence that would have gotten no sympathy and for stealing 4M they would have done real jail time.

Neymar is a tax cheat too, apparently.

Griezman doesn't want to play for Arsenal so forget about the money.

Blimey, I know from my past travels that melbourne can be quite expensive and no wonder if aussie bricklayers can hide 4m euros from the taxpayer! I do agree that the money has got silly, but then again how is it any different from other forms of entertainment? I mean we don't see people protesting outside cinemas at the massive fees paid to the leading actors in the film for just a few months work. At the end of the day if you have a "business" (and i hate using that word for a football club) or any organization bringing in hundreds of millions of revenue based on the talents of a few individuals, then those few will always (rightly) demand large salary's, whether it be acting, football or investment banking etc etc. It may not be nice, but football certainly isn't on its own here.

Totally agree Epping. what's it got to do with anyone else what people get paid. Look at the agent of pogba! He's going to get a live changing sum of money, it's not just players anymore. You get it in every walk of life. I bet you have heard it countless times in the work place "how can he get paid more than me" most people are only happy if they are getting more than the next man! It's one of the major downsides to the human condition of not the worst.

That's how they control us using this thing we've grown to be taught is money even though in reality is doesn't exist.
