Looking at the other clubs in the PL, City have Aguero, Utd Zlatan, Chelsea Costa, Liverpool Sturridge, Spurs Kane, Everton Lukaku, even Leicester have Vardy. If Wenger does not sign a 20 goal a season striker we are not going get anywhere in the league or UCL. I'm very despondent, we suck in transfer windows.

We should pay what it takes to get a lewandowski or Higuain type signing to regenerate some interest in Arsenal football club, that way not just the rest of football but our own fans and players might start taking the club seriously again.
Some will say we can't afford to make such a signing I don't think we can afford not too personally.

Gunner you are so right. Wenger doesn't see that. As you say its an entertainment sport, wetting your appitite and stirring the senses. Safe safe safe, let's have a couple of exiting ins and outs for gods sake at least. We need some big changes.

I personally can't understand our system for transfers.
It's ok to say x player isn't interested or y player wants too much money, but Arsenal are (or in some opinions were) a big big club, with dozens of scouts working around the world.
Couple that with 3 or 4 people, gaffer included working on deals and a (reported) wealth of cash, we should be having more than 2 targets for a position.

Now, i fully understand not signing a player just for the sake of signing him, it's a waste of money and takes up a squad place and I can understand not wanting to sign players who aren't as good/ better than your current crop.
But let's be honest, for strikers, I mean actual out and out strikers, we have Giroud (probably miss 2-3 weeks of the season) Welbeck (miss most of the season) Akpom (very average for hull, not to say he won't improve but shouldn't be in the first team yet) and Sanogo (please god no) .
Are you telling me with all those behind the scenes people at the club, they can't find a player who's an improvement at a reasonable fee?
Even if Giroud has to remain first choice, we can't find a quality back up?
Right now, we don't have the firepower to finish 4th this season let alone win the league.

Same goes for Centre back.
We have Koscielny who's top class, in my opinion, the best centre back in the league on his day.
But you're telling me, that once again, we can't improve on Mertesacker and Gabriel?
Don't get me wrong, I like Per, he's a leader and a generally decent seeming lad, but still, Utd splashed £40m on a CB who's young and unproven, with the likes of Musacchio, Garay, Murillo, etc all reported to be likely to move, we can't go in for one?

I'm not pretending I have the slightest knowledge of how transfers really work outside the media perception or that I can guarantee x player is better than who we currently have, but if anyone at the club can say there's nobody out there who can improve our team, they're either stubborn, stupid or arrogant.

I also agree completely with what you're saying G62, not even necessarily Higauin either, it'd be nice to just see Arsene go and slap down some big dollar for a marquee signing, show players there's ambition still at this club, because right now, it's becoming a place where players and the manager can amble along at their own pace doing what they want and picking up their pay cheque.

It's infuriating even more so, because at the end of last season when people were becoming more and more angry with Arsene, he seemed genuinely hurt and upset, I honestly thought that would spur him to change a little, and when we threw a large fee at Granit I thought it had, but shows what I know.

All through I've been saying there's still a month of window left and to stay positive, but combining what the ed's say and a large lack of 'reliable' rumours, it's becoming harder to believe the club will take the right action and move us in a positive way.

Instead I have an image of Arsene and co in the meeting room trying to see if Lyon will lower the demand of £43m for Lacazette to £15m, Debuchy, 2 packs of dick law's lunchtime wotsits and a signed Arsene long zip coat.

The joys!

If we don't want to or can't afford the ridiculous money being thrown around I do wish we'd sign a cf who isn't completely the finished product but is showing some promise. Not like the Japanese lad someone banging in a few goals for their league just to give us another option. I know we need the ready made product but if that's not happening just another option we can turn too. Because Theo Alexis and obv sanogo do not seem to cut it as a cf.

Honestly i'm not even holding out for o e of the big name strikers that have been mentioned anymore.

Imo the most important thing is we get a player with opposite attributes to giroud. We create bags of chance if we had someone woth pace who gets in behind its going to improve our chances in games that don't suit giroud.

Look at the difference welbeck made when he came back and let's be honest we was never much of a central player.

I think D actually said more along the lines of what I was rambling on about. For me I can understand if that world class striker we need is out of range. Let's be Honest all world class ones are at big clubs or not affordable. However surely we can find a good suitable back up to compete with giroud.

16 Jul 2016 19:18:56
Of course there is always the option that Wenger has been working on a wonder formation that we haven't thought of?

16 Jul 2016 21:10:40
I assume if we invest 80m in a CF, you will be happy with no CD and limited investment in the winter window?
I thought you old skool guys were from the GG era - clean sheet can't be beat. If so, why not invest in the defence?

16 Jul 2016 22:14:06
Sy4 central defence and striker need addressing. World class in both are needed, that might cost us 140 mil or so but that's the going rates today, i'm afraid how ever huge and disgusting those amounts sound. It is a multi million pound sport with huge amounts of money flying around.

16 Jul 2016 22:29:38
Agreed - that's where 1000% of our ficus must be but we may only have 100m to spend in total (Max) based on our accounts and investment analysis. We can only spend what we can.
45m striker
20m CD
35m Mahrez

Sell Joel and Ox to help fund above.

16 Jul 2016 22:50:19
I don't think we have that in total but i do think some players may leave and i do think one of our stars could too, to balance it all out. Just my opinion.
