What about Scott Dann to for Arsenal?
I think he would be a good signing.
Although he did leave wembley on crutches, hopefully not serious!

I would prefer Ashly Williams, a true leader.

22 May 2016 08:07:31
Would prefer Robbie Williams.
At least he would entertain us.

Williams is an excellent player and captain Welsh mate but unfortunately he's 32 and like Kos prefers to play left of centre, if he was a couple of years younger and more at home on the right he'd be an excellent signing mate because as you say as captain he leads both by example and with his mouth.

{Ed001's Note - is he excellent? He was awful this season, and was not a good captain when Swansea needed him to step up. He is average.}

22 May 2016 10:16:54
I must admit I've only really seen him on motd highlights this season Ed but what I've seen I thought he looked very good and also an excellent captain too. Personally I'd put him head and shoulders above Mertesacker as both a player and captain.

{Ed001's Note - as a player I would, as a captain I wouldn't though.}

ED
Have to agree with g62 (and that's a first)
I love and respect all Arsenal players, but god knows how you come to that conclusion.
I watch William, and the man will throw his head in where it hurts for club and country.
Mert at times has turned his back a few times, When do you see Mert driving the team on, He couldn't drive sheep.
Like I say he is a good player but for me he has never been a leader.

{Ed001's Note - Merts is an excellent club captain off the pitch, neither are any good on the pitch. Throwing your head in where it hurts does not make you a captain. Lifting players in a bad spell is the main responsibility of a captain, which Williams did nothing to do when Monk was struggling.}

22 May 2016 10:31:54
Really Ed, personally I think Mertesacker is an awful captain who not only doesn't lead by example but takes no personal responsibility, after the Barcelona home game he moaned about the attacking players not taking our chances but not the slightest mentioned of his own mistake for their second goal, to me that's awful for a captain not to man up to his own mistakes before having a go about others.

{Ed001's Note - off the pitch he is excellent with the youngsters. I do agree I would have neither as captain personally. It is not that I think Merts is a good captain, I just think Williams is worse.}

22 May 2016 11:16:57
out of the current squad who'd be your pick as captain Ed001?

{Ed001's Note - oh God, erm, has to be Cech surely? I really do not see anyone else even worth considering as a captain. I think it should never go to a forward. Personally I prefer a centre back as captain, but not sure Koscielny is captain material, though a very good player. So it has to be Cech. He knows what it takes to win titles.}

22 May 2016 14:02:00
Yeah I think it has to be Cech too. There's really not another suitable candidate.

Wilshere can't stay fit and he's not exactly a role model.
Kos, like you said, isn't really captain material.
Ramsey is possible but not sure he's the strong leader we need.
Sanchez despite working hard seems to sulk a little when things aren't going his/ our way.
Cazorla I don't really see as a captain, vice captain yes, but not captain.

I suppose we could take a chance and give it Xhaka!

22 May 2016 14:56:22
Xhaka could be a future captain as he was captain for his club in Germany.
